Mary said, “Please do not interrupt the band when they are playing my favorite song.”

What does interrupt mean?

Answers

Answer 1

Answer: To break the continuity or uniformity of: Rain interrupted our baseball game.

2. To stop (someone engaged in an activity) by saying or doing something: The baby interrupted me while I was on the phone.

Explanation:

Answer 2

The word 'interrupt' means to disrupt or interfere with the continuity of an ongoing activity or conversation, which is generally considered inappropriate behavior.

The word interrupt means to break the continuity of a conversation or activity by intervening or inserting oneself into it without invitation. It can be seen as a form of disruption or interference with the ongoing process. For example, if someone is interrupting the band, that person is causing the band to stop its performance or breaking into it, which is considered rude or inappropriate, especially if the band is playing a piece that is significant to someone, as mentioned in the initial sentence regarding Mary's favorite song.

In the various contexts provided, interrupting could mean stopping someone from speaking, disturbing a performance or activity, or simply doing something that causes a break in what was happening before. This idea is further illustrated in the example where a conversation that was supposed to be listened to ends up being disrupted, illustrating the act of interrupting.

Nights and Dragons— From the memoir of author Abigail Prynne 1 I sit at my desk listening to thunder growl outside my window. Flashes of light burst through the darkness, and wind races past my window. The thrilling combination of sight and sound conjures up visions of dragons roaring proudly, breathing fire, and soaring across the midnight sky. Dragons first fascinated me when I was a little girl. They have followed me ever since. The magnificent creatures appeared in storybooks I read in the library, paintings I saw in museums, movies I watched in the theater, and the dreams I had in my sleep. By the time I was thirteen, one question consumed me. I wanted to know if dragons ever existed, so I set out on a quest for facts. 2 As I started my research, I discovered many skeptics. Scientists presented evidence to show why dragons could not—and did not—exist. They explained that it would be impossible for dragons to fly because they would be too big. They laughed at the idea of dragons breathing fire. They pointed out that no other animal has ever done this. They said that if dragons had lived, someone would have found remains somewhere in the world. No bones about it, there were plenty of logical explanations. It would have been easy for me to accept that the only place dragons ever existed was in the imaginations of those who believed. 3 I could have given up, but I thought about my grandmother. She always told me that "people who believe that science is the answer to everything are missing out on everything else." With her words in mind, I searched some more. There were many facts that hinted that dragons may not be fictional. I noticed that cultures across the world all described dragons in similar ways. This was odd because they had no way to communicate with each other. I found dragons mentioned in more than just stories. They appeared in old legal papers, in the travel logs of Marco Polo, and in the Bible. I saw that the Chinese calendar uses a different animal each year. Dragons are included along with eleven real animals. I began to believe it was a real possibility that all of these people were talking about a creature that actually existed. 4 With renewed hope that there was some truth to the legends, I looked for new research. I found that some experts disagreed with popular arguments against dragons. They suggested that a dragon could have four stomachs like a cow. If it created stomach gases like birds, it might create enough to lift itself off the ground. This would give it the ability to fly. If it forced out air when diving toward the earth, it might release gases which could ignite into flame. When the animal died, the stomachs would release strong acids that would dissolve its dead body over time. Biologists backed up these ideas with sketches and models based on known animals. Not everyone agreed with these ideas, but many of the things we accept about dinosaurs and other extinct species started the same way. 5 I doubt we will ever truly know whether dragons existed. There may always be two sides to the fiery debate. Some will say the stories come from active imaginations. Some will believe with all their hearts that the legendary creatures roamed our ancient world. I don't know for certain which side to believe, but the sound and fury of a night like this makes me smile. It rekindles my childhood dreams and keeps the exciting possibility alive. Which sentence from paragraph 4 makes an explicit statement without offering any implicit suggestions? With renewed hope that there was some truth to the legends, I looked for new research. If it created stomach gases like birds, it might create enough to lift itself off the ground. Biologists backed up these ideas with sketches and models based on known animals. Not everyone agreed with these ideas, but many of the things we accept about dinosaurs and other extinct species started the same way.

What are Biologists?

A scientist who studies biology is known as a biologist. Whether it be a single cell, a multicellular creature, or a group of interdependent populations, life on Earth is of interest to biologists. They often have a particular research emphasis and specialize in a certain area of biology, such as molecular biology, zoology, or evolutionary biology (e.g., studying malaria or cancer).

The goal of fundamental research conducted by biologists is to increase our understanding of the natural world. They use the scientific method, an empirical approach to evaluating theories, to conduct their study. Their findings could be valuable for a particular objective, like biotechnology, which aims to create human-useful medicinal items.

The majority of biologists in today's world hold one or more academic degrees, such as a bachelor's degree and a more advanced degree, such as a master's or PhD. Similar to other scientists, biologists can be found working in a variety of fields in the commercial, public, and nonprofit sectors of the economy.

What are the flaws in danforth’ s logic about witchcraft and the trials

In answer to Hale, Danforth puts forth the argument that witchcraft is an "invisible crime." Basically, he's making the claim that such a crime is largely committed apart from the community's knowledge. Danforth asserts that only the witch and the victim can attest to the guilt of the witch.

Answer:

Danforth is clearly a well-liked, accomplished, and clever man. With a calm assurance in his own competence to judge correctly, he comes to Salem to oversee the trials of the alleged witches.

Explanation:

In response to Hale's argument, Danforth claims that witchcraft is an "invisible crime." Essentially, he's claiming that such a crime is mostly done without the knowledge of the community. Only the witch and the victim, according to Danforth, can attest to the witch's culpability.

However, Danforth isn't interested in the truth; he just wants to keep things calm. His problem is that he solely employs spectral evidence while investigating witches. He informs Proctor that he is either on the court's side or against it.

Which of the following describes the structure of this excerpt best?
A.free verse
B.sonnet
C.ballad
D.blank verse

Answers

Answer:

The correct answer is letter D. blank verse.

Explanation:

The excerpt shown in the picture belongs to the poem Ulysses by Alfred Lord Tennyson. The option that best describes the structure is letter D. blank verse.

Free verse happens when a poem does not follow any rules for meter or rhyme schemes. This poem, however, does follow a rule for meter: iambic pentameter - a five-time repetition of an unstressed syllable followed by a stressed one.

A sonnet follows pretty strict rules. It has 14 lines written with iambic pentameter, and it has a specific rhyme scheme. As we can see in the excerpt, the lines in this poem do not rhyme.

A ballad is usually divided into quatrains. It presents an abab rhyme scheme. Thus, this poem is not a ballad.

The only option left - and the correct one - is blank verse. Blank verse happens when the lines do not rhyme, but they do present a regular metrical - usually, iambic pentameter. That is precisely what happens in this poem.

d. blank verse

Teachers, parents, and teenagers. The passage involves each of those groups of people

Research indicates that teenagers need more than nine hours of sleep for the best possible brain function. Teenagers who do not sleep enough can be irritable in school, perform badly on tests, and find it difficult to finish test questions.

We already established that this excerpt is about teenagers and is therefore for teenagers. We also can conclude that it was written for parents since it is that parent's responsibility to ensure that their child -- their teen gets enough rest. It's all about checks and balances. It also is helpful to teachers since the paragraph states that lack of adequate sleep for teens can drift off into their school life negatively.

I have always felt funny using chopsticks

Read the excerpt from “Mericans.”

Micaela, you may wait outside with Alfredito and Enrique. The awful grandmother says it all in Spanish, which I understand when I’m paying attention. “What?” I say, though it’s neither proper not polite.

Which idea is true of the speakers in both excerpts?

Answers

Answer:

They feel more connected to American culture than their ancestors’ culture.

Explanation:

The first paragraph refers to an American girl of Asian descent. Reading the paragraph, we can see that the girl is not comfortable with her Asian ancestry and is more integrated into American culture. This can be seen from the lines "I have always felt funny using chopsticks and my favorite food is hot dogs."

On the other hand, in the second paragraph, we realize that the girl has Mexican descent, since her grandmother speaks Spanish and the title of the text "Mericanos". The girl feels good about American culture, but is a little uncomfortable with Mexican culture as she responds to her grandmother rudely when speaking in Spanish.

In both paragraphs we can conclude that girls feel more connected to American culture than their ancestors' culture.

Final answer:

Both excerpts showcase speakers grappling with their cultural identities, demonstrating a sense of detachment from traditional elements of their respective heritages.

Explanation:

The speakers in both excerpts from “In Response to Executive Order 9066” and “Mericans” share the common idea of being caught between cultures and not fully identifying with the supposed cultural norms of their ethnic backgrounds. Both characters show signs of disconnection with their cultural heritage, whether through linguistic challenges or through their preferences and behaviors that align more closely with the mainstream or dominant culture.

In the first excerpt, the speaker's difficulty using chopsticks and preference for hot dogs indicates a divergence from traditional elements associated with her Asian heritage. In the second excerpt, the speaker's choice to respond in English despite understanding Spanish, and their lack of adherence to cultural etiquette illustrates a similar form of cultural detachment or hybrid identity.

Desalination is expensive because it requires

Answers

Final answer:

Desalination is expensive due to the energy-intensive processes it requires like reverse osmosis and reverse dialysis. These processes need substantial pressure to work, which contributes to the high cost. Additionally, the size of demand in the market makes economies of scale difficult to achieve in the desalination industry.

Explanation:

Desalination is expensive because it requires processes like reverse osmosis and reverse dialysis, commonly known as filtration. These processes involve the movement of water through a semipermeable membrane from a less concentrated solution to a more concentrated one. This happens when back pressure, either natural or mechanically induced like by a piston, is sufficient to reverse the direction of the substances through the membranes.

In the case of desalination, water is forced through a membrane that will not pass salt, thus resulting in desalinated or salt-free water. However, to achieve this, a substantial amount of pressure has to be applied. This pressure is a source of significant energy use in the desalination process and as such contributes to its high cost.

Furthermore, in terms of economies of scale, the desalination industry is often unable to achieve significant reductions in cost due to the size of the demand in the market. Compared to options like owning a spring with very pure water, the start-up and operational costs of desalination can be substantial.

The sun is hot on my neck as I observe

The spikes of the crocus.

The smell of the earth is good.

It is apparent that there is no death

Not only underground are the brains of men

Eaten by maggots.
