Which is not a component of the SQ4R method?

record

review

reply

Answers

Reply is not a component of the SQ4R method.

The answer is D. Reply

Explanation:

In reading, the SQ4R method is one of the most effective for understanding and remembering the information of a text. This method proposes six different stages that should be followed by the reader to guarantee an effective reading. These stages are surveying, question, reading, reciting, recording and revise and in each of them the reader completes a task. For example in surveying the reader look at the elements of the text to get a general idea and in reviewing the reader remembers the information he read. However, "reply" is not one of the components of this method, because it is not included in any of the stages and in the SQ4R method the reader does not need to answer or reply to the text.

SECTION 29

When they got well started, I couldn't see, myself, how even the corpse could stand it. All that went before was just simply poetry to that smell,--but mind you, the original smell stood up out of it just as sublime as ever,--fact is, these other smells just seemed to give it a better hold; and my, how rich it was! I didn't make these reflections there--there wasn't time--made them on the platform. And breaking for the platform, Thompson got suffocated and fell; and before I got him dragged out, which I did by the collar, I was mighty near gone myself. When we revived, Thompson said dejectedly,--

"We got to stay out here, Cap. We got to do it. They ain't no other way. The Governor wants to travel alone, and he's fixed so he can outvote us."

How can you minimize internal distraction as you read? Take notes as you are reading Watch TV as you read Listen to music as you read Stop reading if you can't concentrate

Answers

I think the best answer would be A. Take notes while you read. Taking notes envelopes you in the text and makes you think about what you’re reading. This allows you to get more out of the text.

Tv and music distract you from reading, as it is difficult to do multiple things at once.

Stopping reading would get you nowhere, just putting off what you should be doing. Thus, it’s reasonable to take notes when reading a passage to minimize distractions.

Hope this helps!

To minimize internal distractions during reading, find a quiet space, silence your phone, and ensure you are sitting at a table with a comfortable chair.

Elizabethan England. Elizabethan people suffer from some afflictions that no longer exist in modern England. Plague is the obvious example but it is by no means the only one. Sweating sickness kills tens of thousands of people on its first appearance in 1485 and periodically thereafter. It is a terrifying disease because sufferers die within hours. It doesn’t return after a particularly bad outbreak in 1556 but people do not know whether it has gone for good; they still fear it, and it continues to be part of the medical landscape for many years. How does the paragraph develop the central idea that Elizabethans suffered from diseases that are unfamiliar to modern readers

Answers

Answer:

Explanation:

Everyone knows about the plague.

The paragraph turns its attention to sweating sickness that has two major outbreaks: 1485 and about 70 years later in 1556. It's a terrifying disease because it acts almost as quickly as a poison. The fact that it could come and go kept people on edge.

We moderns likely do not know what it is and what controls it. Certainly speaking personally, this the first time I've heard of it and maybe that's not a good yardstick. After running across 6000 questions, you might think it would have come up once.

The paragraph you quoted only records two instances. After that people just worried about it. Today only medical historians really know what it is.

Answer:

D- It provides the example of sweating sickness.

Explanation:

It has to be D by process of elimination.

A is out because Modern England would be now.

B is out because there are still cases of the plague out now such as the bubonic plague that occurred not all that long ago relative to the time of Elizabethan times.

C is out because the English landscape description has nothing to do with illness.

Kenneth looked at Kelly and said, "Actually, the dinner you made was not very good. The lasagna noodles were a bit overcooked and the sauce was so watery it ran all over my plate." Which MOST LIKELY describes the tone that the writer will use if Kenneth continues speaking?

Answers

Answer:

Annoyed, because she seemed angry that the food is not cooked well and tell it straight to the person's face.

Final answer:

The tone of Kenneth's continued speech is likely to remain critical, as he already has a straightforward approach. His tone could become more severe or specific, expressing dissatisfaction through sensory language.

Explanation:

If Kenneth continues speaking after his initial criticism of the lasagna, the tone he uses will most likely remain critical or negative. Given that he's already provided a frank assessment of the lasagna's texture and the sauce quality, his continued remarks might maintain a similar level of candidness and possibly even increase in severity or specificity.

Kenneth's approach thus far does not come across as casual or colloquial, as would be implied by phrases like 'kind of upset,' but rather direct and standard akin to 'somewhat upset.'

He could very well use sensory language to describe his dissatisfaction, akin to 'Bill sounded angry' when expressing his own feelings, or 'The soup tasted good' when juxtaposing against the less pleasing lasagna.

How many murderers are in this scene? At what time of day does the scene occur? Where does the action occur? Do Banquo and Fleance carry a light? How do the murderers manage to get a light? How does the light go out? How long does the scene last? How quickly does the action unfold? Characterize the dialogue in this scene. What does the murderers' language suggest about them? What are Banquo's last words? What do his last words signify? Does the text show how Fleance escapes?

Answers

Answer:

I grabbed this from Octaviana, so these aren't my words, but I hope it helps.

Explanation:

There are three murderers in the scene. The action occurs at dusk (The First Murderer: "The west yet glimmers with some streaks of day.") The scene happens near the palace, in a park. Banquo and Fleance bring a torch to the scene. The First Murderer manages to put out the light, while all three of them attack and kill Banquo. The scene lasts a couple of minutes only, and the action unfolds very quickly. The dialogue is quick, with short, interrupted lines, which is logical considering the fact that this is a murder scene. At first, while they are waiting for Banquo and Fleance to show up, their language is wordier. But then, right before and after the murder, it is swift and abbreviated, telling us that the murderers are members of a lower social class (The Second Murderer: "Then ’tis he: the rest / That are within the note of expectation / Already are i' th' court.") Banquo's last words are that he is betrayed; also, the warning to Fleance to run away to safety. Banquo realizes in an instant that this is a political murder, and that his son is the next potential victim. So, he wants to protect him. We don't see from the text how Fleance escapes.

Answer:

There are three murderers in the scene.

I would say this scene happens at dusk because it says, "The west yet glimmers with some streaks of day". The action occurs, "A Park or Lawn, with a gate leading to the Palace".

Banquo and Fleance do carry a light because the second murderer says he does see a light. "SECOND MURDERER. A light, a light!" I think the murderers manage to get a light by taking someone else's light. Perhaps someone walking on the road near them. "Now spurs the lated traveller apace" The light is accidentally knocked out.

The scene does not last that long because the action unfolded so quickly they barely get to grasp what had happened. And what had happened was that Fleance got away during the fight when the light was knocked out. He escaped when he was supposed to die.

In this scene there are three murderers. At the beginning of the scene they are kind of waiting around for Banquo and Fleance to arrive. And it all happened in such a quick moment they kind of give away that, in my opinion, they from the lower class because the way they talk after Fleance gets away proves that there choice of words is poor and not very " professional". Maybe if they were professional, then one of them would maybe say, "We need to go get him and finish the job" instead of, " SECOND MURDERER. We have lost best half of our affair. FIRST MURDERER. Well, let's away, and say how much is done." They should have found him and killed him instead of just giving up.

Banquo's last words were, "BANQUO. O, treachery! Fly, good Fleance, fly, fly, fly! Thou mayst revenge.—O slave!" I think his last words signify that he wants his son to avenge his dead and get justice for him.

No. The text does not show how Fleance gets away.

The best way for the student to revise the essay is to replace informal language with formal language. In academic writing, especially concerning documents of historical significance such as the Declaration of Independence, a formal tone conveys the gravity and importance of the subject matter. Thomas Jefferson's writing was influenced by Enlightenment thinkers like John Locke, emphasizing natural rights and the social contract, and was instrumental in articulating the colonies' reasons for separation from Britain; hence, the language used to discuss it should reflect its profound impact.

Read these lines from the excerpt, which show Romeo and Juliet about to part:

I will omit no opportunity
That may convey my greetings, love, to thee.

Juliet: O, think’st thou we shall ever meet again?

Romeo: I doubt it not; and all these woes shall serve
For sweet discourses in our time to come.

What effect do these lines have on this scene?

They create a sense of tragedy, by foreshadowing that Romeo's prediction will come true.

They create a mood of romance, by foreshadowing that in spite of everything, Romeo and Juliet will always be true to each other.

They create an effect of encouragement, by foreshadowing that Romeo's cheerfulness will be justified by later events.

They create tension, by foreshadowing that Juliet's fears are realistic and Romeo's hopes are not.
I chose this (d)

I chose answer D, thanks in advance :)))

A is wrong because how is his joy tragic??

B is wrong because, though, it is true that they will always be true to each other BUT this is not a foreshadowing scene.

C is wrong because at this point, the audience does not know that his cheerfulness will be justified by later events.

Best option is D because hearing that Juliet seemed to doubt him at first makes the audience fear that something will actually happen later on.

The sentences have a tense effect in this scene because they predict that Juliet's concerns are realistic while Romeo's hopes are not. As a result, Option D is the proper response.

Analysis of Yonder Sky Has Wept Tears of Compassion on Our Fathers Seattles speech (yes, the city is named after him) has an interesting history. It was delivered in whats now the state of Washington. At that time, it was called the Washington Territory, and the new governor of the territory, Isaac Ingalls Stevens, was traveling through it, trying to convince Native Americans to give up certain stretches of land so that railroads could be built there. Seattles speech was written down by a man named Harry Smith, who published his translation 33 years later in a Seattle newspaper. His translation is obviously very much his own, as he uses words and expressions that a Native American wouldnt be familiar with. Seattles speech is interesting today for several reasons. First is his use of language. His speech relies heavily on figurative language, especially metaphors. The speech opens with the personification of the sky. Consider this statement: Yonder sky has wept tears of compassion on our fathers for centuries untold. Seattle uses that statement to show that ordinary language cant capture the sense of grief Seattle feels. Look, hes saying, our suffering is so great that even the sky weeps for us! Personification also makes the Native Americans connection to their land and environment clear. Because they were so close to nature, they felt that the land and sky would feel compassion for them. They wept for their landwhy shouldnt the land and sky weep for them? Pontiac continues using ecological metaphorsmetaphors that have to do with earth, sea, and sky. The next sentenceMy words are like the stars that never setemploys a simile. The statement suggests that Seattles speech will never be forgotten. Like the stars that never set, his words will be forever in the minds of Native Americans. The second reason Seattles speech is remarkable is for its tone. His words seem to say one thingOkay, were giving up; well try to get along. But his tone is different. He uses veiled threats. He doesnt come right out and say, All right, white man, if you mess with us, well kill you. Instead, he suggests that he cant control his own people. For example, he refers at several points to our own angry young men who are capable of relentless cruelty. He pretends that hell try to rein them in, because their hearts are also disfigured and turn black when theyre angry at the whites. But his real meaning is clear: Our old men are not able to restrain them means that hell unleash them against the whites if the whites break treaties and try to drive the Native Americans from their homelands. Seattles main theme is that while Native Americans and whites may be forced to coexist, they can never be integrated. The overall strategy of the whites was to try to eliminate Native American culture from the North American continent. The most effective way to do this was to try to get Native Americans to forsake their traditional culture and blend in with the whites. Here are Thomas Jeffersons words on the whites strategy: Two measures are deemed expedient [to be done quickly and efficiently]. First: to encourage them [Native Americans] to abandon hunting. . . . Secondly: to multiply trading houses among them . . . leading them to agriculture, to manufactures, and to civilization. This is precisely what Chief Seattle said should never happen. In fact, he says that its impossible to integrate the two races because their cultural values are so different. To emphasize this point, he uses examples of their different spiritual practices. The basic difference between the two cultures spirituality, he says, is in the way they treat their dead. The whites basically forget theirs. The Native Americans continue to pay homage to their dead. This focus on the dead provides Seattle with a way to make his final, spooky threat. Native Americans believe that the dead still walk among them, he says. The whites would do well to think about this, for the land will be filled with the walking deadso let him [the white man] be just and deal kindly with my people, for the dead are not altogether powerless. Reflect and Respond Now that you have read the speech, ask yourself these questions: 1. What elements in the speech sound as though they were probably part of the original myth? 2. How does Pontiac make the myth relevant to the current situation he wants to remedy? The average annual salary for employees in a store is $50,000.
