I'll be comparing the lives/stories of Walter and Eckel from "The secret life of Walter Mitty" & "Sound of Thunder"

At first glance, it seemed to me that the two individuals were very different. But I took side notes and here's the two main things I noticed...

Similar- They both have the lust for adventure. Which is one of the reasons I connected to the characters and plots (of the story). Anyhow, once Eckels finds what he's been seeking he realizes it's too much for him.

Different-  One difference is that Walter never actually went on adventure, he just spent time fantasizing about it.

Walter's story is sort of like Disney's movie/film "Up" Ellie dreams of traveling to Paradise Falls (South Africa) but ended up getting caught up in life.

The narrator in 'All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace' expresses a desire to live in a utopian future where humans coexist harmoniously with intelligent machines in a nature-preserved ecosystem.

The narrator in the poem All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace does not express a mistrust of machines, an obsession with technology, or ambivalence about religion. Instead, the narrator reveals a desire to live in a utopian future where humans and intelligent machines coexist harmoniously and nature is preserved. The optimistic view of machines suggests that technology could lead to a more balanced ecosystem where machines care for human needs without dominating them, perhaps even watching over them lovingly as suggested by the title.

Richard Brautigan, the author, imagines a technological paradise where machines enable a return to a natural, yet technologically enhanced way of life. This vision reflects a certain era's hopes for the future, which stood in stark contrast to the more dystopian views presented by other authors of science fiction - where technology becomes a threat to humanity's very survival.

The poem's setting does not exhibit a fear of a Mechanical Planet or offer a critique like many science fiction narratives. Instead, it is infused with a cautious optimism about technology's ability to improve human existence and is reminiscent of utopian science fiction, which envisions a better world made possible by technological progress.

Why was Zeus angry with Prometheus?

because Prometheus gave mortals the gift of fire

because Prometheus could not stop looking at his own reflection

because Prometheus told the mortals about immortality

because Prometheus had flown too close to the sun
?

Answers

Prometheus gave humans the gift of fire. Zeus then punishes him for his crime by having his liver eaten by eagles. Every day his liver would grow back and then be eaten again.
The answer is A, Prometheus gave mortals the gift of fire. Zeus had said that mortals should not have fire, but Prometheus, favoring man over the gods, went against this. Zeus eventually found out about this, however, and had Prometheus chained to a rock in the Caucasus Mountains. Not only that, but he was torn at relentlessly by a giant eagle. Zeus was rather cruel when it came to punishments, I must say.

What are five helpful questions you can ask yourself if you're trying to create imagery to explain an abstract concept or idea?

Answers

What objects are in this image?
What colors are in the image?
What place is this image in?
Who is this image about?
Why is this image a thing?
These are the five questions.

The correct response is -  What things are shown in this picture? What hues may be seen in the image? Where is this picture located? About whoever is in this picture? Why does this picture exist? The five queries are as follows.

What is an abstract concept?

Because they have no direct embodiment in the physical world, abstract ideas refer to things that are not limited by space or time. It exists as a type of item rather than at a specific moment or location. Emotions, analogies, and abstract behaviors are a few examples of abstract notions (e.g., thinking).

For instance, we can build a civilization based on abstract concepts like justice, equality, and freedom. These are ideas that exist in our brains but are detached from reality.

Being able to process complex visual or linguistic concepts that are difficult to relate to concrete concepts is known as abstract thinking. Compared to concrete thoughts, which are typically apparent and objective, abstract ideas are frequently invisible, complex, and subjective.

jim is interested in a career in web design. during his review he learns that a web designer will design edit and create web pages and needs to use new technology. which of the following post secondary options will best help him prepare for this career
A: Volunteering
B: Traveling the world
C: Vocational training
D: 2-year or 4-year college

Answers

Id go with D on this one

The correct option is C: Vocational training.

Vocational training is the most relevant post-secondary option for Jim, who is interested in a career in web design. This is because vocational training programs are specifically designed to provide practical skills and hands-on experience in a particular field, such as web design. These programs often focus on the latest technologies and software used in the industry, which are essential for designing, editing, and creating web pages.

Let's consider the other options:

A: Volunteering - While volunteering can provide valuable experience and looks good on a resume, it typically does not offer the structured learning environment that vocational training does, nor does it guarantee the development of the technical skills needed for web design.

B: Traveling the world - Traveling can broaden one's horizons and provide inspiration, but it does not directly contribute to the acquisition of the technical skills required for web design. It is more relevant for personal growth rather than professional skill development in this field.

D: 2-year or 4-year college - A college degree can be beneficial and is often required for many careers. However, for web design, a vocational training program can be more focused and efficient in teaching the necessary skills. Additionally, vocational training can be completed in a shorter time frame and often at a lower cost than a traditional college degree.

Therefore, vocational training is the best option for Jim to gain the specific skills and knowledge needed for a career in web design."

The selected option illustrates a shift in usage of the verb 'passed' to describe the change in the behaviour of the children from just passing by the shop to stopping and gazing at the sweets.

Answers

The correct answer is B. A hypophora is when the writer asks a question and answers it immediately.

Answer: The right answer is the B) "What's the fundamental challenge of our day? It is to end economic violence. Plant closing without notice, economic violence. Even the greedy do not profit long from greed. Economic violence."

Explanation: In this excerpt from Reverend Jesse Jackson's inspirational and remarkable speech, which he delivered at the 1988 Democratic Convention, there is an example of hypophora (from the Greek "carrying it under"), a figure of speech where the speaker poses a question AND then answers it, and which, therefore, is different from a rhetorical question, where the question is posed but not answered. Jackson asks his audience what is the fundamental challenge of our day, and instead of letting them wondering, he ventures and shares with them a straightforward and sincere answer, which shows his confidence, his authority and his control in the subject, as well as his attempt to engage them, have a dialogue with them and spark their curiosity.

Read the excerpt from Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. The silhouette of a moving cat wavered across the moonlight, and turning my head to watch it, I saw that I was not alone—fifty feet away a figure had emerged from the shadow of my neighbor’s mansion and was standing with his hands in his pockets regarding the silver pepper of the stars. Something in his leisurely movements and the secure position of his feet upon the lawn suggested that it was Mr. Gatsby himself, come out to determine what share was his of our local heavens. The appearance of Gatsby from the shadows suggests that he prefers to go out at night. he is very busy during daytime hours. he prefers to be left alone. he is a man of mystery and secrets.

Answers

Final answer:

The appearance of Gatsby from the shadows in Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby suggests that he is a man of mystery and secrets. His confident, solitary presence in the night conveys his introspective nature and the mystery surrounding his character as depicted by the flawed narrator, Nick Carraway.

Explanation:

The appearance of Gatsby from the shadows does indeed suggest something about his character. Considering F. Scott Fitzgerald's nuanced portrayal of Gatsby in The Great Gatsby, it can be argued that Gatsby's emergence from the shadows indicates that he is a man of mystery and secrets. Fitzgerald’s characters, as noted in The Fitzgerald Reader, are complex individuals, and Gatsby, as the titular character, is no exception.

In the context of the passage, Gatsby standing alone in the moonlight, watching the stars, conveys a sense of contemplation and introspection that aligns with the private nature of his character. His leisurely movements and secure positioning imply a man who is confident and contemplative in the privacy of the night.
