in which two states were slaves sold in Kentucky likely to end up

Answers

Slaves sold in Kentucky were mostly forced south to other states, with Alabama and Mississippi being common destinations. New Orleans, in Louisiana, had the largest slave market and was a key location in the trade route.

The question inquires about the likely destinations of slaves sold from Kentucky. During the period of the domestic slave trade, records indicate that slaves sold in Kentucky were often transported further south. The two states where these individuals were likely to end up were Alabama and Mississippi. New Orleans, located in Louisiana, boasted the largest slave market in the nation, serving as the primary hub for these transactions. Therefore, many individuals sold in Kentucky would pass through New Orleans en route to various plantations in the deeper South.

The domestic slave trade thrived on the sale and transportation of enslaved persons across different states. Kentucky, once a receiver of slaves from states like Virginia, eventually shifted roles and became a supplier as well. The trade provided economic opportunities for many white people involved, including slaveholders, brokers, and others who could profit from the ancillary needs of the trade such as housing, clothing, and food for the slaves.

How does Brutus anticipate the question of why he killed Caesar?

Answers

"Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more."

Final answer:

In Shakespeare's 'Julius Caesar,' Brutus justifies killing Caesar to prevent tyranny and protect Roman liberty, emphasizing his love for Rome over Caesar.

Explanation:

In Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar, Brutus anticipates the question of why he killed Caesar by addressing the Roman citizens directly in his funeral speech. Brutus declares that he loved Caesar but loved Rome more. Brutus insists that he assassinated Caesar not out of personal animosity but to prevent Caesar's absolute rule, as he believed that Caesar's ambition would have harmed the Republic. Furthermore, Brutus appeals to the Roman value of liberty and suggests that Caesar's death was necessary to preserve the freedom of the Roman people.

How are the references organized in the Works Cited list?

A) by title alphabetically
B) by last name alphabetically
C) by year from earliest to most recent
D) by year from most recent to earliest

Answers

Answer:

B) By last name alphabetically

Explanation:

When using MLA style, organize your Works Cited by the last names of the authors (or editors). If a work has no author or editor, alphabetize by the first word of the title other than a, an, or the.

Final answer:

In a Works Cited list, references are usually organized alphabetically by the author's last name. If there is no author, the source is arranged by title.

Explanation:

In the Works Cited list, references are typically organized by last name alphabetically. This applies to various citation styles including MLA (Modern Language Association) and APA (American Psychological Association). So the correct answer is B) by last name alphabetically. For example, a source by Smith would come before a source by Thompson. However, if the sources do not have an author, they are usually arranged alphabetically by title, ignoring articles like 'a', 'an', or 'the'.

Explanation:

The difference between a summary and a critical annotation lies in their objectives and the depth of information they provide. A summary, option B, does not evaluate the text but simply restates the original text in condensed form. On the other hand, a critical annotation, option C, includes the author's evaluation of the text, its relevance, quality, and potential uses for further research.

When writing a critical annotation, it's important to consider whether the author supports their proposition with reliable data (option A). What does William Wordsworth mean by "wealth" in the following bolded line?

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in a sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

The time spent walking
The cost of daffodils
The lesson he learned
The long day ahead

what kind of government does Thoreau argue for in "civil disobedience"

Answers

Henry David Thoreau argues for a government that intervenes minimally in individuals' lives in his essay "Civil Disobedience", advocating a form of anarchism and promoting the idea of nonviolent resistance to unjust laws, influencing future social and political leaders.

Henry David Thoreau's View on Government in "Civil Disobedience"

In Civil Disobedience, Henry David Thoreau argues for a government that exerts minimal control over the individual, essentially advocating for a form of anarchism. He famously states, "The best government is that which governs least," and goes on to say, "That government is best which governs not at all." This reflects his belief that government naturally promotes corruption and evil, and that individuals should practice civil disobedience in response to unjust governance. Thoreau's principled stand against paying taxes to support slavery and the Mexican-American War led to his brief imprisonment, an act that epitomized his commitment to civil disobedience, and which he discussed in his influential essay.

Thoreau's adoption of passive resistance as a form of protest against the government articulated the concept that unjust laws should be defied nonviolently. His ideas have notably influenced important historical figures like Mohandas Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr., who led nonviolent resistance movements for social and political change. In Walden, Thoreau explores similar themes, advocating for individualism and the right to live simply away from societal pressures. His imprisonment served as a practical application of his theories on government and individual moral responsibility laid out in Civil Disobedience.

* I WILL GIVE YOU 60 POINTS IF YOU CAN TELL ME WHAT ARE TWO STRATEGIES THE SPEAKER USES TO DEVELOP THE POINT THAT VOLUNTOUR OPPORTUNITIES ARE NOT LEGITIMATE WAYS TO LEARN ABOUT OTHER CULTURES * “ I WILL MARK YOU BRAINLIEST *

Read the speech and answer the question.

Voluntourism: An Opportunity Too Good to be True

A Speech to the Student Body of Evergreen High

[1] Picture this: It's Spring Break, and you fly off to some country where there's lush rainforests and beautiful, blue coastlines to explore. There's also people in need, so you decide to blend your vacation with volunteering. Volunteering as a tourist, or voluntourism, seems like a great way to explore new regions and help people at the same time. However, this "volunteer plus travel" experience can actually harm local communities. While many teens might view traveling and volunteering abroad as a worthwhile adventure, there are more genuine and effective ways to make a difference.

[2] Most would agree that volunteering in general is a worthy use of time. However, what if you found out the children you are "helping" are actually being kept in poor conditions so voluntourists will spend money to come to the local area? Dale Rolfe, a supporter of ethical voluntourism, explains the shocking reality that "Animal sanctuaries and orphanages are often manufactured for the voluntourist...encouraging a cycle of exploiting the very animals and children the volunteers are trying to help."

[3] Proponents of the "volunteer plus travel" experience also argue that traveling to new places builds character and is a valuable way to learn about different cultures. With voluntourism, however, participants often pursue experiences that are all about them. For example, they sign up to build a school for a gold star on their resume, but they have no real building skills and take jobs away from local construction workers (Schulten). Or, they arrive to teach English but instead take selfies with the locals. One world traveler and ethical voluntourist believes voluntourism "can perpetuate small minded views of the world by taking insulated, fake, and structured experiences and selling them as unabridged and eye opening" (Carlos). The voluntour experience is a mirage. The voluntourist's eyes are not opened to real life at the destination, and lasting change is not achieved.

[4] If you want a genuine experience where you can see a lasting impact, there are better options than voluntourism. You can volunteer in your local community. Give an hour every week to your town's animal rescue. Serve monthly dinners to the homeless. Be a reliable, positive influence on a child who needs a mentor. Studies show that volunteering and forming lasting relationships with those you help has a positive impact on your physical and emotional health. In fact, blood pressure is reduced, memory is improved, and rates of depression are reduced (Michaels).

[5] There is another reason to look into alternatives to voluntourism. Did you know the average "voluntour" travel package costs $3,400 (Rolfe)? Could that travel money be better spent? If the world's citizens are your passion, it could go to an international organization. If you care about education, your funds can be used to buy books for students in faraway lands. If you want villagers to have clean water, contribute funds to local efforts to dig wells. If you want to experience a different culture, travel to the country as a guest, and learn from the locals how you can best help them after you've returned home. But do not voluntour.

[6] In reality, there are better ways to make a difference. Voluntourism might appear to be an adventure that blends travel and helping others, but it does little except provide a costly, superficial experience that might actually do more harm than good. So, volunteer where you are most needed-at home, where you can stay to see the job through and form genuine, lasting relationships. Choose a beautiful coastline closer to home and send the travel money you saved to an international organization that will put it to good use. Whatever you do, don't turn someone else's hardship into your vacation.

What are two strategies the speaker uses to develop the point that voluntour opportunities are not legitimate ways to learn about other cultures?

Expert testimony
Metaphor
Personification
Repetition
Statistics

Answers

Answer:

The speaker uses expert testimony and repetition as strategies to develop the point that voluntour opportunities are not legitimate ways to learn about culture.

Explanation:

expert testimony- the speaker uses factual evidence and speaks with experts such as Dale Rolfe.

repetition- the speaker continuously mentions staying at home to volunteer instead of voluntouring.

Final answer:

The speaker uses expert testimony and statistics to support their argument that volunteer opportunities are not legitimate ways to learn about other cultures.

Explanation:

The speaker uses two strategies to develop the point that volunteer opportunities are not legitimate ways to learn about other cultures:

Expert testimony: The speaker includes quotes from individuals with experience in voluntourism, such as Dale Rolfe, a supporter of ethical voluntourism. By including these quotes, the speaker establishes credibility and supports the argument that voluntourism can have negative consequences.Statistics: The speaker mentions the cost of volunteer travel packages, stating that the average cost is $3,400. By providing this statistic, the speaker appeals to the audience's logic and demonstrates that the money spent on voluntourism could be better used for other purposes, such as supporting international organizations or funding local efforts.

ASAP please Read the passage.

From “Letter from Birmingham City Jail” I must close now. But before closing I am impelled to mention one other point in your statement that troubled me profoundly. You warmly commended the Birmingham police force for keeping “order” and “preventing violence.” I don’t believe you would have so warmly commended the police force if you had seen its angry violent dogs literally biting six unarmed, nonviolent Negroes. I don’t believe you would so quickly commend the policemen if you would observe their ugly and inhuman treatment of Negroes here in the city jail; if you would watch them push and curse old Negro women and young Negro girls; if you would see them slap and kick old Negro men and young Negro boys; if you will observe them, as they did on two occasions, refuse to give us food because we wanted to sing our grace together. I’m sorry that I can’t join you in your praise for the police department.

Which detail does not support the main idea of the passage?

The jailed protestors are denied food because they want to sing.

The article praises the police for their treatment of the protestors.

The Birmingham police push, curse, slap, and kick people.

The police allow their dogs to become violent and bite the protestors.

Answers

The correct answer is "The article praises the police for their treatment of the protesters."

The article goes in-depth about how the polices' actions are unjust to negroes.

Answer: The right answer is the B) The article praises the police for their treatment of the protestors.

Explanation: Just to elaborate a little on the answer, it can be added that King wrote this letter from the Birmingham city jail, where he had been confined together with many of his supporters in the spring of 1963, and he addressed it to his "fellow clergymen," who had been very critical with his "unwise and untimely" actions. Almost at the end of this arresting missive, which is aimed at justifying the actions of the demonstrators, King shows his disagreement with the clergymen's praise of the Birmingham police department, and gives specific and very disturbing examples to support his claim. Therefore, the detail that does not support the main idea of the passage is the one that speaks highly of the police for their treatment of the protestors.
