What is the theme of casabianca

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

Casabianca is not purely fictitious story. It is a story of brave and innocent boy. The poetess has depicted a scene of sea battle. Where a ship is own ablaze with Casabianca standing on the deck. During the battle when every part of ship was gutted with fire, most of the crew members had died and the live ones had runaway to save their lives. But Casabianca kept standing, fearless of fire and enemy's shelling where he was in obedience of his father's order who was the captain of the ship.

When the ship was burning with fire, Casabianca's impatient nature made him ask the permission to leave the battle field but there was no reply as his father was dead.

In the last three stanzas, the poetess has described the scene of Casabianca’s death when the flames of fire engulfed him, the ship was also blasted and his body blown to bites. But in reality his spirit and moral was not defeated. Till his last breath, he stood like rock facing death and danger.

Enter Nurse and PETER. Mercutio: A sail, a sail! Benvolio: Two, two; a shirt and a smock. Nurse: Peter! Peter: Anon! Nurse: My fan, Peter. Mercutio: Good Peter, to hide her face; for her fan’s the fairer face. Which is true about the scene? Mercutio uses a pun to complain about his clothing. Mercutio uses puns to make fun of Nurse’s appearance. Nurse uses puns to request her fan from Peter. Nurse uses puns to mock Benvolio and Mercutio.

Answers

Answer:

Mercutio uses puns to make fun of Nurse’s appearance.

Explanation:

There's not much to explain. The text literally says:

Mercutio: Good Peter, to hide her face; for her fan’s the fairer face.

If you didn't get that -- then basically, Mercutio said the Nurse's fan looks better than her face. He must have thought it was a pretty punny and clever response.

Mercutio employs puns to mock the Nurse's appearance in a scene from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

In the scene you're referring to, Mercutio uses puns to make fun of the Nurse's appearance. This occurs in William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The interaction features Mercutio's witty repartee as he compares the Nurse's face unfavorably to her fan, implying that the fan is prettier. Nurse's exchanges with other characters, though often humorous, are more straightforward and less reliant on puns.

Which part of this excerpt from John Keats' poem "Endymion" contains a simile?
Therefore, 'tis with full happiness that I
Will trace the story of Endymion.
The very music of the name has gone
Into my being, and each pleasant scene
Is growing fresh before me as the green
Of our own vallies: so I will begin
Now while I cannot hear the city's din;
Now while the early budders are just new,
And run in mazes of the youngest hue
About old forests; while the willow trails
Its delicate amber; and the dairy pails
Bring home increase of milk.
And, as the year
Grows lush in juicy stalks, I'll smoothly steer
My little boat, for many quiet hours,
With streams that deepen freshly into bowers.

Answers

Answer:

The part of the excerpt from John Keat's poem "Endymion" that contains a similie is below.

"Into my being, and each pleasant scene

Is growing fresh before me as the green

Of our own vallies: so I will begin."

Explanation:

A similie is used to compare two things using the words "like" or "as." In this passage, Keat is comparing what is growing inside of him to the green valleys. Both are fresh.

The only other use of "as" or "like" (to indicate a similie) in this passage of the poem is used in the section below.

"Its delicate amber; and the dairy pails

Bring home increase of milk.

And, as the year

Grows lush in juicy stalks, I'll smoothly steer"

However, here as is not used as a similie to compare, but simply as a conjunction to connect clauses in the section.

How does Twain use the understatement help serve his purpose? Be sure to use specific details from the text to support your answer

How his boat blowing up far from putting him out of use, made him more useful or important in the favors of society.

Mark branleist please.

Answer:

The answer is explained below.

Explanation:

The question refers to this excerpt:

No girl could withstand his charms. He "cut out" every boy in the village. When his boat blew up at last, it diffused a tranquil contentment among us such as we had not known for months. But when he came home the next week, alive, renowned, and appeared in church all battered up and bandaged, a shining hero, stared at and wondered over by everybody, it seemed to us that the partiality of Providence for an undeserving reptile had reached a point where it was open to criticism.

Mark Twain was an American writer, famous by writing The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, among many others. Understatement means to represent something less strongly than what it really is. In the excerpt, it is expressed first in "tranquil contentment among us such as we had not known for months," where happiness of other fellows is apparently understated pointing out that he had taken all the girls attention in town. Another example is "it seemed to us that the partiality of Providence for an undeserving reptile had reached a point where it was open to criticism" which explains the feelings (specially disgust) of people around him.

Answer:

The effect an unreliable narrator has on the reader is A. to make the reader question the narrator's credibility and trustworthiness.

Explanation:

"Unreliable narrator" is a term coined in 1961 by Wayne C. Booth. It refers to a narrator - most of the times a first-person one - who is incapable of telling the story without any bias. The narrator is either somehow impaired, unable to understand facts and reality, or biased, misjudging behaviors and situations according to his/her own opinion.

One of the most famous literary works in Brazil, "Dom Casmurro" by Machado de Assis, is to this day considered a major example of an unreliable narrator. The narrator, Bentinho, is sure of his wife's infidelity and the only two reasons he presents for that are her deceiving eyes and her determination to get what she wants. By the end of the novel, it is impossible for the reader to know what really happened, since every detail presented has been tainted by Bentinho's opinion.

The “Big Dig”

The “Big Dig” (the Central Artery/Tunnel Project) has been complex and challenging. Located in Boston, Massachusetts, this tunnel is eight lanes wide and three-and-a-half miles long. What is most amazing about this tunnel is that it is constructed under a major highway and skyscrapers located in Boston’s financial district.

Construction crews used “clamshell excavators” during this dig. These machines carved narrow trenches, and then a special substance was pumped into the trench to keep the dirt from caving in. Finally, steel beams were lowered into the trench and concrete was pumped in.

One problem that engineers faced while constructing the tunnel is the fact that the soil beneath Boston is extremely loose and soggy. Engineers solved this dilemma by freezing the soil and pumping very cold water into pipes beneath the city. To strengthen the soil even further, a special type of glue was injected into the ground to help with the consolidation of the soil.

23
Which phrase best defines the word excavator as used in the passage?
A.
a device used to measure underground temperatures
B.
a device used to level uneven surfaces
C.
a device used to move heavy objects
D.
a device used to dig holes

Answers

Final answer:

The word 'excavator' used in the passage refers to 'a device used to dig holes', consistent with its use in construction and archaeology to remove soil for exploration or to create room for structures.

Explanation:

The phrase that best defines the word excavator as used in the passage is 'a device used to dig holes'. The passage describes how construction crews used 'clamshell excavators' to carve narrow trenches during the construction of the 'Big Dig'. The purpose of these machines was to excavate, or dig, the earth to create space for the tunnel's structure. This use of the excavator is consistent with other applications in construction and archaeology, where the primary objective is to remove soil or rock materials from a site, often to uncover what lies beneath or to create room for structures like tunnels or wells.
