Find the vertical, horizontal, and slant asymptotes, if any, for f(x)=5x^3-51x^2+77x+100/x^2-11x+24

Answers

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:  f(x)=5x^3-51x^2+77x+100/x^2-11x+24

Please use parentheses to eliminate any ambiguity:

      f(x) = (5x^3-51x^2+77x+100) / (x^2 - 11x + 24)

or (better yet):

                  5x^3-51x^2+77x+100

        f(x) = ---------------------------------

                      x^2 - 11x + 24

The vertical asymptotes here are at the zeros of the denominator:

x^2 - 11x + 24 = 0,  This quadratic equation has coefficients a = 1, b = -11 and c = 24.  Thus, its roots (zeros) are:

       -(-11) ± √( 121 - 4(1)(24) )

x = -------------------------------------

                    2(1)

or:

        11 ± √( 25 )

x = --------------------

                 2

or:  x = 8 and x = 3

The vertical asymptotes are x = 8 and x = 3.

If we attempt to divide x^2 - 11x + 24 into 5x^3 - 51x^2 + 77x + 100, we see that the first term of the quotient is 5x.  As x increases or decreases without bound, 5x goes to either ∞ or -∞, so we conclude that there is no horiz. asymptote.  Continuing this division results in:

5x + 4 + a fraction

This represents the slant asymptote, y = 5x + 4

Answers

Answer:

[tex]-x^5+3x^4+16x^3+7x^2-3x+6[/tex]

Step-by-step explanation:

Given polynomials are:

[tex]x^5-4x^4+7x^3+8[/tex], [tex]9x^3+7x^2-10[/tex] and [tex]-2x^5+7x^4-3x+8[/tex]

So let's add them by combining like terms:

[tex]x^5-4x^4+7x^3+8+9x^3+7x^2-10-2x^5+7x^4-3x+8[/tex]

[tex]-x^5+3x^4+16x^3+7x^2-3x+6[/tex]

Supplementary angles are angles that add up to 180 degrees, aka one straight line. The supplementary angles here are:

1 and 2, 1 and 3, 2 and 4, 3 and 4, 5 and 6, 6 and 8, 7 and 8, and 6 and 7. Well, those are the more obvious ones. 1 and 7 are supplementary because if you envision them next to each other, you’ll see that they create a straight line. So, with that logic, 3 and 5 are supplementary because when you put them together, they create a straight line

Angle ∠5 and angle ∠3 are supplementary angles. Then the correct option is C.

What is an angle?

The angle is the distance between the intersecting lines or surfaces. The angle is also expressed in degrees. The angle is 360 degrees for one complete spin.

Supplementary angle - Two angles are said to be supplementary angles if their sum is 180 degrees.

Linear angle - If the total of two angles is 180 degrees, they are said to be linear angles.

From the figure, the supplementary are given below.

The angles ∠1 and ∠2, ∠3 and ∠4, ∠5 and ∠6, ∠7 and ∠8, ∠1 and ∠3, ∠2 and ∠4, ∠5 and ∠7, and ∠6 and ∠8 are supplementary angles.

The sum of angle ∠5 and angle ∠3 is 180 degrees.

Then Angle ∠5 and angle ∠3 are supplementary angles.

Heston wagons reported in June that 20 out of 500 wagons failed inspection. In July they reported that 25 out of 625 wagons failed inspection.which proportion can be used to represent the wagon failures?

Answers

Answer:

The proportion is [tex]\frac{y}{x} =\frac{1}{25}[/tex]

Step-by-step explanation:

We have to:

In June 20 of 500 wagons failed

On July 25 of 625 wagons failed

If we call x the number of wagons and and the number of wagons that had failures then we have to for June:

[tex]\frac{y}{x} = \frac{20}{500}\\\\\frac{y}{x} = \frac{1}{25}[/tex]

For July we have

[tex]\frac{y}{x} = \frac{25}{625}\\\\\frac{y}{x} = \frac{1}{25}[/tex]

The proportions are the same for both months

[tex]\frac{20}{500} = \frac{25}{625}[/tex]

The proportion is [tex]\frac{y}{x} =\frac{1}{25}[/tex]

This means that of every 25 wagons, one has faults

Suppose that you ask three friends to go to the mall. Each one has a 0.70 chance of saying yes. What is the probability that all three friends will say they can go to the mall with you? a. 0.027 c. 0.343 b. 0.21 d. 0.657

Answers

____________________________________________________

Answer:

Your answer would be 0.343.

____________________________________________________

Step-by-step explanation:

In the probability questions like this one, in order to get the answer,we would use the multiplication rule.

In your questions, we are trying to find the probability of ALL of your friends going to the mall with you.

Lets make it easier for you.

Whenever in probability you can say and, you multiply.

This means that you would try to find if friend 1 and friend 2 and friend 3 will say yes.

That's the same as saying friend 1's probability × friend 2's  probability × friend 3's  probability

We know that each friend has a 0.70 chance of saying yes.

Using the multiplication rule, we would just multiply 0.7 three times.

[tex]0.7 *0.7*0.7=0.343[/tex]

When you multiply, you should get 0.343.

There is a 0.343 chance of ALL your friends saying yes to go to the mall with you.

0.343 would be your FINAL answer.

____________________________________________________

To solve this problem, you need to consider the probability of each friend agreeing to go to the mall individually, then multiply these probabilities together to find the probability that all three will say yes.
Since each friend has a 0.70 chance of saying yes, we can calculate the combined probability as follows:
For the first friend, the probability is 0.70.
For the second friend, the probability is also 0.70.
For the third friend, the probability remains 0.70.
To find the combined probability that all three friends will say yes, we multiply the individual probabilities together:
\( Probability (All Say Yes) = Probability (Friend1 says Yes) \times Probability (Friend2 says Yes) \times Probability (Friend3 says Yes) \)
\( Probability (All Say Yes) = 0.70 \times 0.70 \times 0.70 \)
When you calculate this, you get:
\( Probability (All Say Yes) = 0.343 \)
So the answer is c. 0.343.

Colin invests £1200 into his bank account. He receives 3% per year simple interest. How much will Colin have after 4 years? Give your answer to the nearest penny where appropriate.

Answers

Final answer:

Colin will have £1344 in his bank account after 4 years. This is calculated using the simple interest formula I = PRT (Interest = Principal x Rate x Time) yielding an interest earned of £144 over four years, which was then added to the initial investment.

Explanation:

First, understand that simple interest is calculated as (principal amount × interest rate × time in years). The principal amount here is £1200, the interest rate is 3%, and the time period is 4 years.

Before doing the calculation, convert the 3% interest rate into decimal form by dividing by 100, yielding 0.03.

War is represented by the formula I = PRT, which means Interest = Principal x Rate x Time. So, use these values in the formula: £1200 * 0.03 * 4. This gives you £144, which is the interest earned after 4 years.

To find the total amount in Colin's account after 4 years, you need to add the interest earned to the principal amount. Therefore, £1200 (original amount) + £144 (interest) = £1344.

So, after 4 years, Colin will have £1344 in his bank account.

Read the excerpt from the fairy tale Hansel and Gretel and answer the question that follows. Hard by a great forest dwelt a poor wood-cutter with his wife and his two children. The boy was called Hansel and the girl Gretel. He had little to bite and to break, and once when great dearth fell on the land, he could no longer procure even daily bread. Now when he thought over this by night in his bed, and tossed about in his anxiety, he groaned and said to his wife: "What is to become of us? How are we to feed our poor children, when we no longer have anything even for ourselves?" "I'll tell you what, husband," answered the woman, "early tomorrow morning we will take the children out into the forest to where it is the thickest; there we will light a fire for them, and give each of them one more piece of bread, and then we will go to our work and leave them alone. They will not find the way home again, and we shall be rid of them." "No, wife," said the man, "I will not do that; how can I bear to leave my children alone in the forest?the wild animals would soon come and tear them to pieces." "O, you fool!" said she, "then we must all four die of hunger, you may as well plane the planks for our coffins," and she left him no peace until he consented. "But I feel very sorry for the poor children, all the same," said the man. The two children had also not been able to sleep for hunger, and had heard what their stepmother had said to their father. Gretel wept bitter tears, and said to Hansel: "Now all is over with us." "Be quiet, Gretel," said Hansel, "do not distress yourself, I will soon find a way to help us." And when the old folks had fallen asleep, he got up, put on his little coat, opened the door below, and crept outside. The moon shone brightly, and the white pebbles which lay in front of the house glittered like real silver pennies. Hansel stooped and stuffed the little pocket of his coat with as many as he could get in. Then he went back and said to Gretel: "Be comforted, dear little sister, and sleep in peace, God will not forsake us," and he lay down again in his bed. When day dawned, but before the sun had risen, the woman came and awoke the two children, saying: "Get up, you sluggards! we are going into the forest to fetch wood." She gave each a little piece of bread, and said: "There is something for your dinner, but do not eat it up before then, for you will get nothing else." Gretel took the bread under her apron, as Hansel had the pebbles in his pocket. Then they all set out together on the way to the forest. When they had walked a short time, Hansel stood still and peeped back at the house, and did so again and again. His father said: "Hansel, what are you looking at there and staying behind for? Pay attention, and do not forget how to use your legs." "Ah, father," said Hansel, "I am looking at my little white cat, which is sitting up on the roof, and wants to say goodbye to me." The wife said: "Fool, that is not your little cat, that is the morning sun which is shining on the chimneys." Hansel, however, had not been looking back at the cat, but had been constantly throwing one of the white pebble-stones out of his pocket on the road. When they had reached the middle of the forest, the father said: "Now, children, pile up some wood, and I will light a fire that you may not be cold." Hansel and Gretel gathered brushwood together, as high as a little hill. The brushwood was lighted, and when the flames were burning very high, the woman said: "Now, children, lay yourselves down by the fire and rest, we will go into the forest and cut some wood. When we have done, we will come back and fetch you away." Hansel and Gretel sat by the fire, and when noon came, each ate a little piece of bread, and as they heard the strokes of the wood-axe they believed that their father was near. It was not the axe, however, but a branch which he had fastened to a withered tree which the wind was blowing backwards and forwards. And as they had been sitting such a long time, their eyes closed with fatigue, and they fell fast asleep. When at last they awoke, it was already dark night. Gretel began to cry and said: "How are we to get out of the forest now?" But Hansel comforted her and said: "Just wait a little, until the moon has risen, and then we will soon find the way." And when the full moon had risen, Hansel took his little sister by the hand, and followed the pebbles which shone like newly-coined silver pieces, and showed them the way.
