Wjat are substances intentionally added to food to produce a desired effect?

Answers

Answer: additives are substances added to food that are meant to have a desired effect.

Final answer:

Food additives are substances intentionally added to food to improve its nutritional value, longevity, taste, and appearance. However, not all additives are safe, and some historical examples have included harmful substances. Therefore, it's important for consumers to be aware of what's in their food.

Explanation:

Substances intentionally added to food to produce a desired effect are known as food additives. These include a range of substances, from vitamins and minerals to preservatives and flavorings. The primary purpose of these additives is to improve the food's nutritional content, increase its shelf-life, or enhance its taste and appearance.

However, it is crucial to note that not all food additives are safe for consumption. As history has shown us, instances of harmful substances added to food are not uncommon. For instance, in the late 19th century, products like Mrs. Winslow's Soothing Syrup contained morphine, and Cocaine Toothache Drops were indeed a product.

Today, the use of such substances is strictly regulated by health and safety governing bodies. While food additives play an essential role in our food system, it's important for consumers to stay informed about what they eat and the potential impacts some additives can have on their health.

I want to be a nurse and have been researching programs to start off as a LPN to then bridge over to my RN then BSN. I've found many programs for RN - BSN but not LPN and I'm starting to get stressed out. I don't know if it's because of the different usage of term and I'm not finding it on these college pages but I feel the melt down coming. Then I'm seeing all these different perquisites that don't make any sense. Do I take a year off to do the prereqs? Then go for the certificate. I don't know what I'm looking for or doing and need help please.

I know different colleges have different requirements for prereqs but I just need some type of simple list that most colleges share so I can do an outline and make it just look more simple

Answers

I believe you should take a year off and do every prereq you can get at a local college or university. a way to check that would be to go on a computer and pull up the local college, and the college you set your mind to long term. so for instance LTC (long term college) may have a prereq Bio 213 and maybe you LC (local college) has a Bio 217. you would call the LTC and say hey, does your Bio 213 line up with LC Bio 217. Most of the time they will say yes. It saves a LOT of money.
Final answer:

Your path of pursuing a nursing career starting from LPN to RN and then BSN is perfectly feasible. Look for 'LPN-to-RN' or 'LPN-bridge programs' in schools, and their requirements may vary but common prerequisites include Anatomy & Physiology, Nutrition, Microbiology, English Composition, and Psychology. It's advisable to directly start with the programs instead of taking a year off.

Explanation:

It seems like you're looking for a pathway to becoming a nurse, starting with the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification, then transitioning to becoming a Registered Nurse (RN), and finally acquiring a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Firstly, not all schools have a specific bridge program for LPN to RN, but many do have an LPN to RN program where you can transfer some of your credits. To find it, you might need to look for 'LPN-to-RN' or 'LPN-bridge programs'.

In terms of prerequisites, they vary by school, but there are some common ones that most schools share:

Anatomy & PhysiologyNutritionMicrobiologyEnglish CompositionPsychology

I would advise against taking a full year off to complete prerequisites as they are usually included in the LPN programs itself. But again, this depends on the specific requirements of your chosen school.

Lastly, Stay organized, do your research, and don't hesitate to reach out to the schools' admissions offices for specific program information. You can do this!

Alcoholic hepatitis and cirrhosis are conditions affecting the liver
Final answer:

Alcoholic hepatitis and cirrhosis are conditions affecting the liver. Alcoholic hepatitis is inflammation caused by excessive alcohol while cirrhosis results from fibrous tissue replacing dead liver cells due to various factors like viral hepatitis, alcoholism, and contact with liver-toxic chemicals causing progressive loss of liver functions.

Explanation:

The conditions, Alcoholic hepatitis and cirrhosis, both affect the liver. Alcoholic hepatitis refers to the inflammation of the liver caused by excessive consumption of alcohol. On the other hand, cirrhosis involves the formation of fibrous tissue in the liver, which replaces dead liver cells. This could be caused by various factors such as viral hepatitis, alcoholism, or contact with other liver-toxic chemicals leading to progressive loss of liver function.

The mentioned conditions often lead to chronic liver failure, due to the sustained damage and reduced function of the liver. Chronic liver failure can also be as a result of other factors such as hepatitis B or C, autoimmune disorders, iron or copper overload, hereditary conditions or non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

In conclusion, both alcoholic hepatitis and cirrhosis serve as major indicators of severe liver malfunction and are often caused by excessive alcohol intake, hepatitis, or toxic contact. Controlling these factors can potentially prevent or manage both conditions.

Answers

Yeah the correct answer would be the coronary arteries
Final answer:

Excess cholesterol in the blood is deposited in arteries, contributing to a condition called atherosclerosis. This involves the buildup of plaque, comprised of cholesterol and fats, on artery walls, which can impede blood flow and lead to heart problems. Cholesterol is transported in the bloodstream in the form of lipoproteins.

Explanation:

Excess cholesterol in the blood is mainly deposited in the arteries, which are blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart. The deposit process is part of a condition called Atherosclerosis.

Atherosclerosis begins when cholesterol and fatty materials, collectively known as plaque, accumulate on artery walls. Over time, this buildup of cholesterol and fats can calcify and harden, causing the arteries to narrow. This can impede blood flow and potentially lead to heart problems. An example of this is evident in the coronary arteries within the heart, where a buildup of cholesterol can lead to coronary artery disease.

The cholesterol that contributes to plaque formation can be carried in the bloodstream in the form of lipoproteins. There are two main types of lipoproteins, low-density lipoproteins (LDL) and high-density lipoproteins (HDL). LDL, often referred to as 'bad cholesterol', is the main source of artery-clogging plaque, while HDL, or 'good cholesterol', helps to remove cholesterol from the bloodstream, thereby reducing the risk of plaque formation and atherosclerosis.

A food worker wears nail polish on her finger nails. She is starting her shift and will be preparing sandwiches.
What would she do to prevent herself from contaminating the sandwiches?

A. Wash her hands twice as often

B. Apply a hand antiseptic before her shift

C. Wear gloves while she prepares the sandwiches

D. Ask her manger if she can prepare soup instead

Answers

She can wear gloves while she prepares the sandwiches to prevent herself from contaminating the sandwiches.

Final answer:

The food worker should wear gloves while preparing the sandwiches to prevent contamination from the nail polish.

Explanation:

The food worker should wear gloves while preparing the sandwiches to prevent contamination from the nail polish. Nail polish can chip and get into the food, which can be harmful if ingested. By wearing gloves, the worker creates a barrier between the nail polish and the sandwiches, reducing the risk of contamination.

Washing hands twice as often may not be enough to remove any nail polish residue, so wearing gloves is a more effective preventive measure. Applying a hand antiseptic before the shift is a good practice for maintaining hand hygiene, but it would not address the issue of nail polish contamination. Asking to prepare soup instead would not directly address the problem of nail polish contamination either.

It was shrouded in a deep black garment, which concealed its head, its face, its form, and left nothing of it visible save one outstretched hand. But for this it would have been difficult to detach its figure from the night, and separate it from the darkness by which it was surrounded. He felt that it was tall and stately when it came beside him, and that its mysterious presence filled him with a solemn dread. He knew no more, for the Spirit neither spoke nor moved. A.
