Realism is a style of writing that

values feeling and intuition over reason

"paints" local scenes and tends toward the humorous and sentimental

seeks to explain why ordinary people behave the way they do

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

B). "Paints" local scenes and tends toward the humorous and sentimental

Explanation:

Realism, as the title itself suggests, a literary form that aims to portray the real life subjects in a true-to-life manner. This literary form was primarily an escape from the prior fabrications and imaginative worlds created by the authors and laid emphasis on presenting the natural truth realistically.

As per the question, Realism would be characterized as the style of writing which ''paints' local scenes and tends toward the humorous and sentimental' aspects of life as the chief goal is to portray the real life situations and psychological developments of characters(represent the inner thoughts ad conflicts of common man') that have led to these situations through which the audience are able to connect themselves. 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' by Twain is a classic example of the blend of humorous and emotional reality of the late 19th century.

Answer:

The river, curling softly by, / Whispers and dimples round its quiet gray stones  - personification

From their sweet feeding in the fruit; / The droning of the bees and flies / Rises gradual as a lute;  - simile

After getting my report card / I knew it was time to hit the books. - hyperbole

The earth is the cup of the sun, / That filleth at morning - metaphor

Explanation:

Personification represents a figure of speech that consists of attributing human characteristics to nonhuman things or objects, so they represent a human quality in an abstract form.

In our example, river whispers and dimples, which are human characteristics, as the river cannot literally whisper and dimple.

Simile represents a figure of speech which refers to the comparison, by highlighting similarities between two different things.

In this example, the droning of the bees and flies is compared with a lute.

Hyperbole represents a figure of speech based on extreme exaggeration we use to emphasize action, a feeling, etc.

In our example, the author says he will hit the book, which doesn't mean he is going to hit it literally; he wants to say that he will study hard.

The metaphor represents a figure of speech based on implicit comparison between two different things that share some common characteristics.

In the example above, the Earth is compared with a cup of sun, based on its round shape.

Twain biggest fault when he worked as a printer was that he

Answers

Mark Twain, initially an apprentice in the printing trade, had a fault of indolence and quickly grew bored with his work, a stark contrast to his later reputation as a hardworking writer and humorist, widely recognized for his contributions to American Literary Realism.

Mark Twain, born Samuel Clemens, is one of America's most renowned authors, known for his contributions to American Literary Realism. His works, including The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, highlight his use of dialect, regional humor, and sharp satire. Twain began his career as a printer; however, his greatest fault in this profession was his lack of industry or laziness, which he quickly outgrew as he transitioned into a multi-faceted career that encompassed writing, journalism, and speaking, among others.

In his early years, notably during his time as an apprentice, Twain showed signs of indolence and quickly grew bored with the printing trade, receiving little instruction from his master in the craft. However, his innate talent and later work ethic would ultimately overcome these initial shortcomings. Twain's life experiences then led him to become a revered writer, whose literature often criticized societal norms such as slavery, and provided a voice that subtly influenced generations.

A. They can live as beggars.
O
B. They can get jobs and give money to their parents to help out.
O
C. They can become servants for wealthy families.
O
D. They can get an education to rise out of their lifestyle.

Answers

Answer: A. They can live as beggars.

Explanation:

"A Modest Proposal" is Jonathan Swift's satirical essay from 1729. In this essay, Swift offers a solution to the problem of poverty in Ireland - parents could sell their children as food. Swift, of course, does not really think that this is a way to overcome poverty. This is just his way to deal with the problem of the rising number of paupers' children, and raise people's awareness about this issue. In the essay, Swift describes the starving beggars and their children found on the streets. These children have no future other than begging and struggling to survive. They cannot afford themselves education or employment.

WILL MARK BRAINLIEST

Memories of a Memory

Have you ever witnessed something amazing, shocking or surprising and found when describing the event that your story seems to change the more you tell it? Have you ever experienced a time when you couldn't really describe something you saw in a way that others could understand? If so, you may understand why some experts think eyewitness testimony is unreliable as evidence in scientific inquiries and trials. New insights into human memory suggest human memories are really a mixture of many non-factual things.

First, memory is vague. Imagine your room at home or a classroom you see every day. Most likely, you could describe the room very generally. You could name the color of the walls, the floors, the decorations. But the image you describe will never be as specific or detailed as if you were looking at the actual room. Memory tends to save a blurry image of what we have seen rather than specific details. So when a witness tries to identify someone, her brain may recall that the person was tall, but not be able to say how tall when faced with several tall people. There are lots of different kinds of "tall."

Second, memory uses general knowledge to fill in gaps. Our brains reconstruct events and scenes when we remember something. To do this, our brains use other memories and other stories when there are gaps. For example, one day at a library you go to quite frequently, you witness an argument between a library patron and one of the librarians. Later, when telling a friend about the event, your brain may remember a familiar librarian behind the desk rather than the actual participant simply because it is recreating a familiar scene. In effect, your brain is combining memories to help you tell the story.

Third, your memory changes over time. It also changes the more you retell the story. Documented cases have shown eyewitnesses adding detail to testimony that could not have been known at the time of the event. Research has also shown that the more a witness's account is told, the less accurate it is. You may have noticed this yourself. The next time you are retelling a story, notice what you add, or what your brain wants to add, to the account. You may also notice that you drop certain details from previous tellings of the story.

With individual memories all jumbled up with each other, it is hard to believe we ever know anything to be true. Did you really break your mother's favorite vase when you were three? Was that really your father throwing rocks into the river with you when you were seven? The human brain may be quite remarkable indeed. When it comes to memory, however, we may want to start carrying video cameras if we want to record the true picture.

Which line from the text best explains why the author suggests we start carrying video cameras?
A: You may understand why some experts think eyewitness testimony is unreliable
B: The next time you are retelling a story, notice what you add
C: With individual memories all jumbled up with each other

What best defines the mode of narration in this excerpt from Daisy Miller by Henry James?
The young lady inspected her flounces and smoothed her ribbons again; and Winterbourne presently risked an observation upon the
beauty of the view. He was ceasing to be embarassed, for he had begun to perceive that she was not in the least embarrassed herselt.
There had not been the slightest alteration in her charming complexion; she was evidently neither offended nor flattered. If she looked
another way when he spoke to her, and seemed not particularly to hear him, this was simply her habit, her manner. Yet, as he talked a little
more and pointed out some of the objects of interest in the view, with which she appeared quite unacquainted, she gradually gave him
more of the benefit of her glance; and then he saw that this glance was perfectly direct and unshrinking. It was not, however, what would
have been called an immodest glance, for the young girl's eyes were singularly honest and fresh. They were wonderfully pretty eyes; and,
indeed, Winterbourne had not seen for a long time anything prettier than his fair countrywoman's various features-her complexion, her
nose, her ears, her teeth. He had a great relish for feminine beauty; he was addicted to observing and analyzing it, and as regards this
young lady's face he made several observations.

Final answer:

third person limited. The excerpt from Daisy Miller by Henry James is narrated from a third-person limited perspective, focusing on Winterbourne's internal thoughts and feelings.

Explanation:

The mode of narration described in the excerpt from Daisy Miller by Henry James is the third-person limited point of view. This narrative mode allows us to see the events and the thoughts of one character, Winterbourne, while other characters' thoughts and feelings are not directly revealed to us. We get an inside look at Winterbourne's perceptions, thoughts, and feelings about Daisy Miller, but we are not privy to Daisy's internal perspective.

[Exit LUCIUS]

They are the faction. O conspiracy,
Shamest thou to show thy dangerous brow by night,
When evils are most free? O then by day
Where wilt thou find a cavern dark enough
To mask thy monstrous visage? Seek none, conspiracy.
Hide it in smiles and affability;
For if thou path, thy native semblance on,
Not Erebus itself were dim enough
To hide thee from prevention.

[Enter the conspirators: CASSIUS, CASCA, DECIUS BRUTUS, CINNA, METELLUS CIMBER, and TREBONIUS]

CASSIUS. I think we are too bold upon your rest.
Good morrow, Brutus. Do we trouble you?

BRUTUS. I have been up this hour, awake all night.
Know I these men that come along with you?

CASSIUS. Yes, every man of them; and no man here
But honours you; and every one doth wish
You had but that opinion of yourself
Which every noble Roman bears of you.

Brutus's tragic flaw of being easily manipulated by others is shown when he falls for Cassius's flattery and joins the conspiracy. The correct statement is option b.

The statement that best explains how Brutus's tragic flaw reveals the theme that citizens are persuaded by charismatic leaders is because Brutus is easily manipulated by others, he falls for Cassius's flattery and joins the conspiracy.

In the given excerpt from act 2, scene 1 of The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, Brutus is shown contemplating the conspiracy to assassinate Caesar. His tragic flaw is his naïveté and susceptibility to manipulation, particularly by Cassius who uses flattery to convince Brutus to join the plot. This manipulation by Cassius illustrates how charismatic leaders can persuade citizens to act against their own better judgment. For example, Cassius tells Brutus, "every man of them...honours you; and every one doth wish you had but that opinion of yourself." This flattery makes Brutus believe that joining the conspiracy is the noble and honorable course of action, revealing how easily he is influenced by charismatic appeals.

What is zora neal hurtson writting style in sweat

Answers

Symbolism.

Explanation:

Like her previous works, Zora Hurston evokes “symbolism” to make her plot gain inner depths.

Her story in the fictional work “sweat” revolves around Delia, a washerwoman and Sykes, abusive, ill-tempered husband who is in love with another woman. The action of Sykes trampling Delia clothing, mentally as well as physically abusing her is all symbolical in action and portray a sense of disregard that he has for his wife.

Zora Hurston has been considered as one of the earliest and most influential female writers of her time, who challenged the male dominance in “literary activities”.

Final answer:

Zora Neale Hurston's writing style in 'Sweat' is characterized by the use of authentic vernacular and a focus on themes of self-liberation and African-American culture, distinct from political or racial debates of the era. The narrative explores the protagonist's journey towards empowerment in an abusive marriage, showcasing Hurston's celebration of racial pride and internal strength.

Explanation:

Zora Neale Hurston's writing style in Sweat reflects her unique position within the Harlem Renaissance and her focus on the African-American experience, particularly that of women. Hurston's narrative voice often incorporates the vernacular of the time, adding authenticity to the characters and their experiences. In Sweat, Hurston tells the story of Delia Jones, a woman who eventually finds the strength to liberate herself from an abusive marriage, showcasing Hurston's recurring theme of self-liberation. This style contrasts with other writers of the era, as Hurston's work, including her most famous novel Their Eyes Were Watching God, celebrates racial pride and the internal power of her characters without engaging in overt political discourse.

Unlike contemporaries such as Richard Wright or Ralph Ellison, Hurston's work was apolitical and focused on internal character development and cultural celebration. The backdrop for her narratives, deeply rooted in African-American culture and depicted through intimate character studies, is evidential in Sweat, where the protagonist Delia's journey towards empowerment and the tension with her husband Sykes culminate in a dramatic resolution that turns the tables on Sykes's intended retribution.

Hurston's work, including Sweat, ultimately gained critical acclaim and a resurgent interest sparked by Alice Walker's article in Ms. magazine, leading to Hurston's later recognition as one of the most important voices of the Harlem Renaissance. Her storytelling melded anthropological insights with rich depictions of African-American life and female empowerment.
