Read the excerpts from the Kennedy-Nixon debates.

Kennedy: This is a great country, but I think it could be a greater country; and this is a powerful country, but I think it could be a more powerful country. I'm not satisfied to have fifty percent of our steel-mill capacity unused. I'm not satisfied when the United States had last year the lowest rate of economic growth of any major industrialized society in the world.

Nixon: Let's put it in terms that all of us can understand. We often hear gross national product discussed and in that respect may I say that when we compare the growth in this Administration with that of the previous Administration that then there was a total growth of eleven percent over seven years; in this Administration there has been a total growth of nineteen per cent over seven years. That shows that there's been more growth in this Administration than in its predecessor.

Which best analyzes a difference in the evidence used by each speaker to reach his conclusion?

A). Kennedy uses facts to compare U.S. economic growth with other industrialized nations, which show the U.S. is lagging; Nixon uses facts to compare the economic growth during this presidency to that during the previous one, which shows that the economy is improving.

B). Kennedy uses specific statistics to argue that economic growth in the U.S. is lagging behind other nations; Nixon relies on common assertions and opinions, rather than facts, to show that the U.S.'s economic growth is forging ahead.

C). Kennedy makes a common assertion about how he will improve the U.S. steel industry; Nixon uses facts to demonstrate that the steel industry, while not perfect, has come a long way in the past seven years.

D). Kennedy compares U.S. steel production to that of other countries to show that the U.S. is lagging; Nixon compares steel production now to steel production during the Truman presidency to show that it is forging ahead.

Answer:

Trait.

Explanation:

'Inherited traits' are described as the characteristics possessed by an individual that he/she has acquired or passed on to him through the genes(DNA). The parents often transfer their numerous traits like hair, complexion, aggressiveness, etc. to their offsprings.

As per the question, features like eye color and height would exemplify 'inherited traits' as they have been influenced by genes that the parents transfer to their child. These traits are transferred from one generation to another as DNA of parents is transferred to the child during reproduction and thus, their features or attributes tend to show a reflection of that. Answers

Final answer:

John responds to Bernard's suggestion that he should be impressed by the Bombay Green Rocket with disinterest, attributed to his upbringing and differing cultural values in 'Brave New World'.

Explanation:

In Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, John, who is often referred to as 'the Savage' due to his upbringing outside the World State's society, responds to Bernard's suggestion that he should be impressed by the Bombay Green Rocket with a lack of enthusiasm. John, being from a different background, does not hold the same values or awe for technological advancements as those from the World State. His reaction is likely rooted in his unique perspective and exposure to different cultural ideals, which is a recurring theme in the novel as it explores clashes between natural human experiences and a technologically controlled society.

Upon whom does Lincoln cast blame for the civil war and to what effect? A. Lincoln blames the Confederate States, particularly those states that first seceded, for refusing to negotiate. B. Lincoln does not actively blame anyone for the civil war, likely to avoid future hostility, but points to the institution of slavery as the cause of the war. C. Lincoln does not actively blame either side; rather he blames individual supporters of slavery, thus emphasizing the evils of the institution of slavery. D. Lincoln blames divine intervention for this war, for he sees the civil war as a form of senseless violence caused by an angry God.

Answers

Answer:

B. Lincoln does not actively blame anyone for the civil war, likely to avoid future hostility, but points to the institution of slavery as the cause of the war.

Explanation:

President Lincoln recognized the fact that slavery was a key factor leading to the Civil War. However, he was careful not to blame the southerners for the severe consequences of the Civil War.

Final answer:

Abraham Lincoln was cautious in assigning blame for the Civil War, focusing on the preservation of the Union and the moral issues surrounding slavery. Initial reluctance to ascribe fault evolved as the war progressed, with Lincoln's policies and the Union's fighting efforts reflecting a shift towards ending slavery in addition to reunification.

Explanation:

When considering President Abraham Lincoln's view on the blame for the Civil War, it's critical to assess his stance on secession and the underlying causes of the conflict. Upon reviewing Lincoln's speeches and policies, we can conclude that he exercised caution in placing outright blame for the Civil War on any particular group. He emphasized the preservation of the Union as his principal goal rather than focusing on the abolition of slavery, at least in the early years of his presidency.

Throughout the period leading up to the war and his presidency, Lincoln stressed the moral wrongness of slavery, but also recognized the complexity of immediate abolition. The division between the North and South had been escalating for decades over issues such as states' rights and slavery, particularly with the idea of its expansion into new territories. While Lincoln's election acted as a catalyst, it was not the sole cause of the war. The blame for the Civil War can be observed more as an accumulation of unresolved tensions and the failure of last-minute compromises, such as the Crittenden proposal and the Corwin Amendment, than as the fault of a specific person or entity.

After the South initiated hostilities by attacking Fort Sumter in April 1861, Lincoln took more definitive action but continued to frame the war as a fight to preserve the Union. It was only as the war progressed, notably with the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, that the conflict also became explicitly a war to end slavery. Thus, Lincoln's approach to casting blame for the war was prudent and aimed at national healing and reintegration, without singling out the Confederate States or its individuals unfairly.

Answers

Answer: B) Rachael should give a brief, credibility-building explanation of her experience with the topic.

Explanation: By giving a brief explanation, Rachael avoids appearing speaker-centered and also builds credibility. This makes the audience believe they can trust her. Nobody wants to listen to someone give a speech about a topic they are not familiar with. Establishing that she is an authority on the topic will inspire confidence in her audience and motivate them to listen to her.

Option A, avoiding describing her experience will achieve the opposite of this and she risks the audience losing interest by giving a long detailed explanation of her experiences.

Executive Mansion, Washington,

April 4, 1864.

A. G. Hodges, Esq., Frankfort, Ky.

My Dear Sir:

You ask me to put in writing the substance of what I verbally stated the other day, in your presence, to Governor Bramlette and Senator Dixon. It was about as follows:

I am naturally anti-slavery. If slavery is not wrong nothing is wrong. I cannot remember when I did not so think and feel; and yet I have never understood that the Presidency conferred upon me an unrestricted right to act officially in this judgment and feeling. It was in the oath I took that I would to the best of my ability preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. I could not take the office without taking the oath. Nor was it in my view that I might take the oath to get power, and break the oath in using the power.

I understood, too, that in ordinary civil administration this oath even forbade me to practically indulge my primary abstract judgment on the moral question of slavery. I had publicly declared this many times and in many ways; and I aver that, to this day I have done no official act in mere deference to my abstract judgment and feeling on slavery. I did understand, however, that my oath to preserve the Constitution to the best of my ability imposed upon me the duty of preserving, by every indispensable means, that government, that nation, of which that Constitution was the organic law. Was it possible to lose the nation, and yet preserve the Constitution?

By general law, life and limb must be protected; yet often a limb must be amputated to save a life, but a life is never wisely given to save a limb. I felt that measures, otherwise unconstitutional, might become lawful by becoming indispensable to the preservation of the Constitution through the preservation of the nation. Right or wrong, I assumed this ground, and now avow it. I could not feel that to the best of my ability I had even tried to preserve the Constitution, if, to save slavery, or any minor matter, I should permit the wreck of government, country, and Constitution altogether.

When, early in the war, General Fremont attempted military emancipation, I forbade it, because I did not then think it an indispensable necessity. When, a little later, General Cameron, then Secretary of War, suggested the arming of the blacks, I objected, because I did not yet think it an indispensable necessity. When, still later, General Hunter attempted military emancipation, I forbade it, because I did not yet think the indispensable necessity had come. When, in March and May and July, 1862, I made earnest and successive appeals to the Border States to favor compensated emancipation, I believed the indispensable necessity for military emancipation and arming the blacks would come, unless averted by that measure. They declined the proposition; and I was, in my best judgment, driven to the alternative of either surrendering the Union, and with it the Constitution, or of laying strong hand upon the colored element. I chose the latter. In choosing it, I hoped for greater gain than loss; but of this I was not entirely confident…

Yours truly,

A. Lincoln

In choosing it, I hoped for greater gain than loss; but of this I was not entirely confident...

How many copies of Brain Friction Wondering of the Mind by Artwoodwrite sold and your sources please

Answers

Answer:

The number of copies sold is  statistically difficult to determine.

Explanation:

The determination of the number of books sold by a particular author is a difficult task going by the fact that, most of the sale are made online and at various stores. Most of the customers that bought the books hardly leave feedback which would have aided in compiling the total number.

Also, some are sold as hard copies at various stores available within the author's country of residence and outside of it.

In summary, while looking at the Amazon website, I am optimistic that the author, Artwoodwrite was able to sell a substantial amount of the book Brain friction (Wondering of the mind).

According to different writers, the word 'Intuition' relates to the inner-sensing, unconscious knowledge and/or understanding instinctively.

Intuition in philosophy is described as immediate and clear insight, not just a gut feeling so the sentence provided in the question is true.

Intuition is a form of insight that is perceived to be inherently true without the need for further analysis. It is not a result of a breakable mental process but rather an immediate understanding.

When philosophers refer to intuition, they mean a clear and definite understanding, not just a 'gut feeling.' The truth of mathematical equations like 2 + 2 = 4 serves as a prime example of intuitive knowledge.

Intuition plays a crucial role in decision-making, art creation, relationship choices, and spiritual exploration, showcasing its significance beyond traditional reasoning.

How do details such as "stone or metal," "many pigeons," "towers," and "wild cats that roam the god-roads" help establish setting? They create a feeling of a small mythical kingdom. They build an atmosphere of a preindustrial society. They give the sense that nature has taken over a once-urban area. They develop the feeling of an ancient village of a polytheistic culture.

Answers

Answer:

The sense that nature has taken over a once-urban area.

Explanation:

Mythical kingdom is possible (towers & god-roads) but a small mythical kingdom doesn´t make sense to me.

A preindustrial society is said to be in harmony with nature.

The feeling of an ancient village is not provoked by towers; that word, together with stone or metal could show a once-urban area that has been taken over by nature (wild cats that roam... many pigeons)

These details help create the feeling that nature has taken over a once urban area, as shown in the third option.

Why are these details important?Because they create an ambiance in the text.Because they are immersive and create mental images in readers.Because they emphasize the topic of the text.
