l. Read the following passage found in From Emperor to Citizen.
When I was ten, my grandmother and mother started to come and visit me on the
orders of the High Consorts, and they brought my brother Pu Chieh and my first
sister to play with me for a few days. Their first visit started off very drearily: I and
my grandmother sat on the kang, and she watched me playing dominoes while my
brother and sister stood below us very properly, gazing at me with a fixed stare like
attendants on duty in a yamen. Later it occurred to me to take them along to the part
of the palace in which I lived, where I asked Pu Chieh, "What games do you play at
"Pu Chieh can play hide-and-seek," said my brother, who was a year younger than I,
in a very respectful way.
"So you play hide-and-seek too? It's a jolly good game." I was very excited. I had
played it with the eunuchs but never with children younger than myself. So we
started to play hide-and-seek, and in the excitement of the game, my brother and
sister forgot their inhibitions. We deliberately let down the blinds to make the room
very dark. My sister, who was two years younger than I, was at the same time
enraptured and terrified, and as my brother and I kept giving her frights, we got so
carried away that we were laughing and shouting.

A) After reading these paragraphs, the reader can most likely conclude that P 'u Yi

does not enjoy playing dominoes by himself.

B) regards his brother and sister as subjects and not siblings.

C) is grateful for having children his own age to entertain him.

D) does not often have the opportunity for uninhibited playtime.

2. Read the following paragraphs from "The Women's Baths."
In my grandmother's opinion the market baths had a delicious ambience about them
which we, who had never experienced it, could not appreciate.
For our part we were afraid that the old lady might slip on the wet floor of the baths
this has often happened to people who go there—and break her leg, as her seventy
years had made her bones dry and stiff; or she might catch a severe chill coming
outside from the warm air of the baths and contract a fatal illness as a result. But
how could we convince this stubborn old lady of the cogency of these arguments?
It was quite out of the question that she should give up a custom to which she had
adhered for seventy years, and she had done so without ever once having been
stricken with the mishaps we feared. Grandmother had made up her mind that she
would keep up this custom as long as she was able to walk on her own two feet, and
her tenacity in clinging to her point of view only increased the more my mother tried
to reason with her.

After reading these paragraphs, which of the following can the reader most likely conclude
about the situation?

A) The family is unjustifiably concerned about the safety of its matriarch.

B) The grandmother enjoys taking a position that puts her at odds with her daughter-in-law.

C) The grandmother is angry that her family insists she give up her monthly visits to the baths.

D) The family regards its grandmother's visits to the baths as a worrisome inconvenience.

3. All of the following lines from "Eve to Her Daughters" support the poem's theme of
acceptance except

A) "Where Adam went I was fairly contented to go. "
B) "I adapted myself to the punishment: it was my life."
C) "So he set to work. The earth must be made a new Eden. "
D) "you are submissive, following Adam even beyond existence. "

4. Read the following passage from "Cranes."
The northern village at the border of the Thirty-eighth Parallel was snugly settled
under the high, bright autumn sky.
One white gourd lay against another on the dirt floor of an empty farmhouse. The
occasional village elders first put out their bamboo pipes before passing by, and the
children, too, turned aside some distance off. Their faces were ridden with fear.
The village as a whole showed few traces of destruction from the war, but it did not
seem like the same village Song-sam had known as a boy.
An important theme in this passage is the

A) strain of war on a country.

B) panic associated with conflict.

C) plight of children caught in battle.

D) relationships between generations.

Answers

Answer 1

C.) is grateful for having children his own age to entertain him.

For example: “We got so carried away that we were laughing and shouting”

Answer 2

Answer:

D) does not often have the opportunity for uninhibited playtime.

D) The family regards its grandmother's visits to the baths as a worrisome inconvenience.

C) "So he set to work. The earth must be made a new Eden."

A) strain of war on a country.

Explanation:

1. Based on this excerpt, we can conclude that Pu Yi does not often have the opportunity for uninhibited playtime. This is obvious from the way he behaves when he does. Pu Yi and his siblings find it hard to behave like children, and when they do so, they are aware of their unusual behaviour.

2. It is clear that the family believes that the grandmother's visits to the baths are a worrisome inconvenience. The family is worried that the grandmother might fall and hurt herself, or that she might catch a cold. However, it is clear that the grandmother is not willing to change her mind.

3. This is the sentence that does not support the theme of acceptance. In the other options, we learn that Eve was contented to follow Adam. We also learn that she accepts her punishment willingly and that she is submissive. However, the third option does not mention anything related to submission.

4. In this passage, the author reflects on the changes to a place after the war. The children were afraid and the village had traces of destruction. This shows the strain of war on a country.

What was the irony in the movie called the sixth sense

Answers

Answer:

the main character is dead.

Explanation:

the main character is trying to help a little boy with his problems because he is scared because he can see dead people, and in the end it turns out he was dead all along.

OMG! Do you like The sixth sense' too?

That has got to be one of my all time favourites!!

SPOILER ALERT!!!

Okay, so Dr Malcolm Crowe, who is a distinguished child psychologist is haunted by the painful memory of a disturbed young patient he was unable to help. So when he meets a troubled child,Cole, with a similar condition, he seeks to redeem himself by doing everything he can to help him. Nevertheless, Malcolm is unprepared to learn the truth of what haunts Cole...he could “see dead people” (yeah, "I see dead people" has now become one of the most iconic dialogues in cinema history!)

But there's a twist in the ending!

Cole later identifies the Doctor to be, in fact, dead!

I mean, ain't that one of the most surprising releavations ever?

But the movie doesn't tell us that directly! Oh no, there's a reason why it's considered a classic ;)

I feel that the director has successfully and easily mislead the audience into thinking that Dr Crowe was alive. He left clues for the audience to pick up on but hid them with clever manipulation of camera angles and shots and the way the actors played their characters. The viewers are supposed to interpret the ending on their own. What I find striking is that you only ever see Cole talking back to Dr Crowe. He is the only character in the whole movie to talk to Dr Crowe directly and Cole is the only one to listen and respond to his comments.

Plus Crowe's wife is annoyed with him, when actually she isn't aware that he's there. When she says 'Happy Anniversary' it makes the audience believe it's a sly dig at Dr Crowe's late showing and the quick glance makes the audience believe that Dr Crowe is alive.

Answers

Answer:

The Eagle Nebula is probably the best choice as a book of fact.

Explanation:

I think there are actually two answers to this, but one is more certain than the other.

The Eagle Nebula is probably about a Nebula that does not enjoy a good round hoops when it has nothing else to do. Since it is an actual Nebula that is 7000 light years from Earth, any book about it is going to be very factual (and perhaps a bit dry for most people.)

You can't disregard Deep Blue. That too would be pretty factual, but there would be human parts to it as well.

The book that is a book of fact is 'Origins: Fourteen Billion Years of Cosmic Evolution' by Neil DeGrasse Tyson and Don Goldsmith.

Question worth 20 points, don’t answer if your not sure!!!! :)))) How does the author develop a feeling of mystery and terror in the passage? Use details and quotations from the text to support your answer
Becky moved off of the porch slowly, backing through the door and into the house. She slammed the sliding glass door shut and stood for a moment, relieved to have something solid between her and the snake on the porch.

The glass was cool under her hands despite her pounding heart. She tried to slow her breathing. She was safe, at last, inside. Or was she? How had that snake gotten into the screened-in and walled-up back porch. If it could get in there, it's possible it could get inside where she was as well.

Becky wasn't someone who was normally skittish about wild things. She'd handled snakes before, picked up lizards many times, caught frogs in the garage and let them go. But snakes seemed to always catch her off guard. They would turn up when least expected. She would see them out of the corner of her eye and just the surprise of it would make her jump; her adrenalin would pump, her heart would thump, and her panic would take over.

What was she going to do? She couldn't just stand there waiting for the snake to decide to leave. What if it were venomous? It didn't look like a viper, but it could be. She would need to get out there soon to water the plants.

"What this requires is some advanced planning," she said out loud to her cat, Louie. "And, I will probably have to go 'once more into the fray' kitty," she said, looking in the cat's direction for emphasis.

"First things first, though," she said. The cat meowed back. It often did that, having become used to being talked to. "Let's look that fellow up," Becky said walking to her bookshelf.

"Let's see, snakes," she said, thumbing through her reptile and amphibian identification book. "It's brown and gray, with some black. With a pattern that looks ... there it is," she said thumping the page so hard that Louie jumped. "Not venomous," she said, triumphantly.

"It's an oak snake, Louie," she returned the book and strode over to her closet. "Not venomous, but I am still not taking chances," she said.

She reached into the closet and pulled out her heaviest jacket. It was lined and stuffed thick with lots of padding. Then she found her mittens and a pair of rubber boots. She knew even non-venomous snakes would sometimes threaten to strike when scared. "And that threat would work on me," Becky said aloud again, though Louie had no idea what she was talking about.

"It's 90 degrees outside, Louie," she said, "so get the iced lemonade ready for when I return."

It wasn't much of a plan, but it was the best she could come up with. With her armor on, she was already sweating when she slowly pushed open the sliding glass door and stepped back on to the porch.

She was pretty sure the snake would slither away from her presence. She propped open the outside door, and hoped she could shoo the snake in that direction.

Sweat dampened her arms and collected on her face. She spread her arms out, and took a few steps toward the snake. There was so much for it to hide beneath. Becky regretted the rocking chairs and all the plant stands between where the snake was in the corner and the door to the outside.

At first it seemed like the snake was just going to remain where it was, flicking its tongue every now and then. Becky waved her arms, lunged in its direction, and stomped her feet. It sat there, coiled in the corner, as if perfectly happy to remain there. In a fit of desperation, she picked up one side of the rocking chair the snake was under and let it drop. The snake jumped, raised its head like it was going to strike, and then stayed right where it was.

"Snake," Becky said, "This is not how it works. You have got to go." The snake moved its head back and forth, swaying a bit, and that gave Becky an idea.

She had read somewhere that snakes can "hear" thanks to the ability to process vibrations through the bone in their jaw. This awareness of vibrations in the ground was one reason it was very hard to sneak up on snakes. She quickly realized that getting the snake out was going to be a lot easier than she had thought.

Becky turned on the radio she kept on the porch and lowered it to the ground, pointing in the snake's direction. She adjusted the controls so that the bass was as high as it could go. Then, she cranked up the volume. She envisioned the snake swaying to the sounds of "Dancing Queen," by Abba, and then leaving the porch and going far, far away.

Coming back into the house, she began peeling off the now damp armaments she had put on earlier. "Louie, there is more than one way to skin a snake," she said laughing. She watched as the snake uncoiled and moved cautiously in the direction of the door. Bending down to pick up Louie, Becky sighed and stroked his head. "'Cause no one ever wants to skin a cat, sweetie."

Explanation:

Erika was not among those who disliked Mr. Kelp. As point guard, she was the best passer on the team. She was also the only one not worried about passing science. Her B in Mr. Kelp's class was her lowest letter grade overall. Still, she appreciated how he challenged the class. He didn't let students skate by with minimum effort. Erika considered his class to be good preparation for college. She made plans to meet Mr. Kelp before school. She wanted to ask if he would hold a special study session to help the team prepare for the exam. Her teammates were not fond of the idea. According to Erika, her teammates did not see the point in a study session. They insisted that there was not enough time to learn everything. They were going to fail and get kicked off the team. The season was going to end in embarrassment. Then, one of the teammates spoke out. Erika would not reveal which teammate it was, but she remembers the words clearly. "Our only chance is for someone to get a copy of the test so we know the answers ahead of time." The team smiled. They felt like they had been offered some hope. Erika frowned. She felt like she had been given an order. Erika tried protesting for a while, but she felt trapped. "As soon as the idea was out there, everyone jumped on it," Erika explained. "They kept telling me it would be easy. That I could save the season. That a real teammate puts the team first." Before she knew it, the team had drawn up a plan. Erika would visit Mr. Kelp's room the following morning. Someone would create a distraction down the hall. When Mr. Kelp investigated, Erika would grab a copy of the test from his desk. Erika wanted to say no, but between championships and friendships, there was too much to lose if she did. The following morning, Erika stood in Mr. Kelp's room with her hands shaking and her teeth chattering. She snatched a blank test as he stepped into the hall. What happened next is a blur—partly because it happened quickly—mostly because Erika would like to forget it ever happened at all. She was called to the office, her backpack was searched, and the test was found. By the day's end, she had apologized to a shocked Mr. Kelp. She had been removed from the team by a disappointed coach. She had been suspended by an angry principal and driven home by tearful parents. Wanting to be a good teammate, Erika never mentioned the other players. She expected them to step up and admit their involvement. She ended up taking the fall alone. Her teammates avoided her, saying they were happy the cheater was off of the team. With the exam postponed, they were treated as heroes for winning the championship without her. Erika transferred to another school, remembered as the girl who cheated to make straight A's. Today, a star athlete and college scholar, Erika blames past mistakes on no one but herself. The ball is in her hands again. This time she plans on making better decisions. In paragraph 3, Erika's teammates gave her many reasons to go along with their plan. Hosting a party of this magnitude requires cleaning and organizing the house before you get to the part where you can add decorations to the room

98 points is a lot so here's the answer

The principal character is Waverly Jong her motivation is to motivate the invisible strength in life and in chess. All this because of her mother from whom she learned that mastering the invisible strength will give you a lot of benefits and I'll make you a winner along your way. There are two important quotations about this:* I was six when my mother taught me the art of invisible strength. It was a strategy for winning arguments, respect from others, and eventually, though neither of us knew it at the time, chess games.* I discovered that for the whole game one must gather invisible strengths and see the endgame before the game begins.

The protagonist of 'The Daughter of Invention' is a young woman caught between cultural traditions and personal inventions, facing obstacles that make her a sympathetic and complex character.

In The Daughter of Invention, the protagonist could be envisaged as a creative and enterprising young woman who faces the challenges of balancing her cultural identity and personal aspirations. She is likely straddling the divide between her family's traditional expectations and her own innovative dreams.

This character is sympathetic because she embodies the universal struggle of finding one's own path in life while maintaining familial ties. She is complex, possessing the intelligence and daring to invent, yet also displays vulnerability in her quest for self-expression. To make her realistic and distinct, details such as her particular inventions, the reactions they provoke from her family, and her emotional responses should be woven into the narrative.

Introducing significant events and obstacles pertinent to her journey serves to further flesh out her character. For instance, an invention competition at her school could provide a structured backdrop for her talents to be showcased, while also introducing potential opposition or skepticism from peers and community members. Through a combination of narrative techniques, including limited third-person perspective and sensory-rich descriptions, her story would unfold with vivid emotional depth, resonating with readers and eliciting their investment in her successes and setbacks.

Answer:accent

Explanation:

You accent your design with a highlighter ✊❤️❤️❤️

I will insert each answer choice in place of highlight and we'll see which one makes the most sense:

On the front of the postcard, write words or draw with colored pens to accent your design

On the front of the postcard, write words or draw with colored pens to remember your design

On the front of the postcard, write words or draw with colored pens to underline your design

On the front of the postcard, write words or draw with colored pens to brighten your design

In this case the word that makes the most sense is "accent." This means that it wants the design on the post card to jump out or be noticeable

Hope this helped!

Artist ReportDirections:1. Choose two of the following artists to research. a. Edgar Degasb. Claude Monetc. Vincent Van Goghd. Paul Gauguine. Mary Cassatt2. Write a two page report using word processing software about the two artists and the way they used color in their artwork. this is what I have so farVincent van Gogh was a famous artist before his own death and he did many paintings and most of his paintings were done in dark colors and tones, Claude Monet was the complete opposite he used many colors in his paintings. Now Van Gogh and Monet are both well-known for their landscape paintings, but the colors in their paintings vary. Take Starry Night Over the Rhne for example, it is dark with very minor variation in the color scheme unlike Monets Irises in Monet's Garden "where it is a very colorful piece. Now both men studied the many uses of color and had many failed attempts one notable one would be van Gogh's somber palate. van Goghs favorite color was yellow, and he often used it in his paintings even if it was a dark schemed picture take starry night for example, he used dark blues and blacks, but he put the stars in yellow. when van Gogh did this painting it was of the view from the east-facing window of his asylum room at Saint-Rmy-de-Provence, just before sunrise, with the addition of an ideal village. While van Gogh was there he had met Paul Gauguin and while he waited her painted a picture called sunflowers, and when Gauguin was there he painted a portrait of van Gogh. The portrait was painted when Gauguin visited Van Gogh in Arles, France. Vincent had pleaded with Gauguin to come to Arles to start an art-colony. Gauguin eventually agreed after funding for the transportation and expenses was provided by Vincent's brother Theo Van Gogh however, Gauguin only stayed for two months as the two often quarreled and the famous incident where Van Gogh severed his left ear with a razor occurred after an argument with Gauguin. Van Goghs first impression on seeing the painting was that Gauguin had depicted him as a madman. He later softened his view. "My face has lit up after all a lot since, but it was indeed me, extremely tired and charged with electricity as I was then" one thing Claude Monet said was "color is my day-long obsession, joy, and torment. he loved color and the way he could use it to show light and dark. He tried to find ways to use it side by side and see how light affected it. Find the zeros of the function. Write the smaller solution first, and the larger solution second.
