Answer:
By explaining other types of rewards
Explanation:
In this text from "A Big Year" By Bob Kowalski, the author admits the fact that there is possibility of cheating but it is pretty hard. Next he says majority of the people are very honest. This honesty comes from the fact that whoever participates in this competition, he does it voluntarily to help improve the statistics about birds, their environment, and raise more awareness among people about the birds and environment. They participate not for winning the prize, but solely for the purpose of helping. So, the satisfaction and happiness one gets by doing a work which one loves, seeing amazing, inspiring creatures, and many others are the real reward of the competition.
The lines which the author uses to point out this fact are;
"but in general, few are interested in cheating. This honesty comes from the fact that most people who want to break such a record know the greatest rewards are not necessarily in winning. Such rewards are in being able to commit a year of your life to doing something you love....."

Cubism revolutionized art by deconstructing objects into geometric forms, offering a multi-dimensional perspective. This influential movement, pioneered by Picasso and Braque, transformed artistic expression across various mediums, leaving an enduring mark on modern art.
"Cubism" refers to an influential art movement that emerged in the early 20th century, primarily associated with Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. The main idea of Cubism is the deconstruction and abstraction of objects and forms in art. It seeks to represent objects from multiple perspectives simultaneously, breaking them down into geometric shapes and forms.
Cubist artists reject the traditional notion of art as a literal representation of reality and instead aim to provide a more complex, fragmented, and multi-dimensional view of the subject. This movement revolutionized artistic expression by challenging conventional notions of space, time, and perspective.
Through the use of angular, fragmented shapes and a limited color palette, Cubism fundamentally transformed how artists approached composition and representation. It had a profound impact not only on painting but also influenced sculpture, literature, architecture, and design, making it one of the most significant movements in modern art history.

Which piece of textual evidence best supports the inference that the message Zimmermann sent was very important? Check all that apply.
“On January 16, 1917”
“a clear attempt to convince the Mexican government to help Germany in the war”
“Arthur Zimmermann . . . sent a telegram to Count von Bernstorff”
“The foreign secretary wanted to be certain that this message reached von Bernstorff”
“he made arrangements for it to be carried aboard a U-boat”
Answer: The Last two
Explanation:
The pieces of textual evidence that best support the inference that the message Zimmermann sent was very important are:
- ""a clear attempt to convince the Mexican government to help Germany in the war""
- ""The foreign secretary wanted to be certain that this message reached von Bernstorff""
- ""he made arrangements for it to be carried aboard a U-boat""
The first piece of evidence, ""a clear attempt to convince the Mexican government to help Germany in the war,"" indicates that the message was significant because it was an effort to form an alliance that could change the course of the war. The content of the message itself, which aims to involve another country in the conflict, suggests its importance.
The second piece of evidence, ""The foreign secretary wanted to be certain that this message reached von Bernstorff,"" shows that the message was given high priority by the foreign secretary, who took steps to ensure its delivery. This level of attention and assurance implies that the message was of considerable significance.
The third piece of evidence, ""he made arrangements for it to be carried aboard a U-boat,"" further supports the inference of the message's importance. The use of a U-boat, which was a critical and limited resource during World War I, to transport the message demonstrates that the message was highly sensitive and urgent. The extra precautions taken to secure the message's delivery suggest that its contents were of great consequence.
The other pieces of evidence provided, such as the date ""On January 16, 1917,"" and the fact that ""Arthur Zimmermann . . . sent a telegram to Count von Bernstorff,"" do not inherently convey the importance of the message. The date alone does not provide insight into the message's significance, and the fact that a telegram was sent does not necessarily indicate its importance without additional context.

Explanation:
Not all that Mrs. Bennet, however, with the assistance of her five daughters, could ask on the subject, was sufficient to draw from her husband any satisfactory description of Mr. Bingley. They attacked him in various ways--with barefaced questions, ingenious suppositions, and distant surmises; but he eluded the skill of them all, and they were at last obliged to accept the second-hand intelligence of their neighbour, Lady Lucas. Her report was highly favourable. Sir William had been delighted with him. He was quite young, wonderfully handsome, extremely agreeable, and, to crown the whole, he meant to be at the next assembly with a large party. Nothing could be more delightful! To be fond of dancing was a certain step towards falling in love; and very lively hopes of Mr. Bingley's heart were entertained.
From what point of view is this story told?
A) first person point of view
B) second person point of view
C) third person limited point of view
D) third person omniscient point of view
The story is narrated from a third person omniscient point of view, as it presents the thoughts and reactions of multiple characters.
Explanation:The story is told from a third person omniscient point of view. In this case, the narrator tells us about the thoughts and interactions of both Mrs. Bennet and her husband, as well as provides insight into the favourable report from Lady Lucas about Mr. Bingley. This type of narration provides a wider perspective of the story, allowing the reader to understand different characters' points of view and reactions.

How is the description, or details, of the cell important to the development of the story's
theme? Consider how the setting impacts the story's meaning. The pit and the pendulum
Answer:
In "The Pit and the Pendulum," the author Edgar Allan Poe provides a slow and extremely detailed description of the prison cell where the narrator is forced to stay. Thus, the latter gives the full particulars and tortures that he is compelled to suffer, which helps build suspense. In that respect, the precise circumstances of the narrator's setting and the severe mental and physical pain are related to the story's theme of death and endurance.
The description of the prison cell reinforces the theme of fear and the unpredictability of death.
We can arrive at this answer because:
In "The Pit and the Pendulum," we are introduced to a prisoner who is sentenced to a slow, torturous death. The prisoner is very afraid of what is happening and he can't see exactly his cell or what is happening around him, which makes everything more frightening for him.The way the author describes the prison cell presents the reader with details that the character cannot perceive. In this case, the reader understands the fear of death and the unpredictability that it represents. In this case, the description and set of details that the author provides to the reader, reinforces the theme of the story and makes the narrative darker and more mysterious.

The poem "Sonnet" by James Weldon Johnson uses imagery to develop its theme of racial inequality and social struggle. The structure of the poem, resembling a traditional sonnet, contrasts with the poem's content to emphasize its message of resilience and pursuit of freedom.
Explanation:1.) How does the poem’s use of imagery develop the theme of the poem?
The poem "Sonnet" by James Weldon Johnson develops its theme through vivid imagery that appeals to the reader's senses and emotions. Johnson uses descriptive language and sensory details to create powerful images that convey the theme of racial inequality and the struggle for freedom. For example, in the first paragraph of the poem, Johnson describes the "songs" and "laughter" of the African-American community, which contrasts with the "moans" and "bitter cries" of their oppressors.
2.) How does the structure of the poem contribute to its meaning?

The poem's use of imagery develops the theme by suggesting that life is a complex and carefully crafted tapestry. The sonnet structure, including indentations of specific lines, underscores the intricacies of life and the non-linear nature of human emotions.
Explanation:
Imagery and Theme Development in "Sonnet" by James Weldon Johnson
The poem’s use of imagery significantly develops the theme of the intricate and often-painful nature of life’s experiences. For example, the mention of “a loom” and “weaving” evokes a sense of something being created with both beauty and effort, suggesting that life is a tapestry of complex emotions and events. Such imagery emphasizes the theme of life being a creation that requires patience and resilience.
Structure's Contribution to Poem's Meaning
The structure of the poem, being a sonnet, contributes to its meaning by imposing a concise and rhythmic form that contrasts with the complex emotional states depicted. The indentation of certain lines, particularly lines five and nine, might create a visual representation of the ebbs and flows in life’s journey, reflecting how our paths are not always straightforward. This structural element parallels life’s unpredictability and the non-linear nature of human emotions.

Why did the US enter WWI? Write one paragraph
Answer:
The U.S entered WW1 for several reasons. The U.S entered for two main reasons: one was that the Germans had declared unlimited German submarine warfare and the Zimmermann note. The German had totally disregarded the international laws protecting neutral nation’s ships by sinking neutral ships. We warned the Germans one too many times and they did not take us seriously so in 1917 we finally had enough and we joined the war.
The Germans had decided that they would sink any ship they wanted without warning even if it was a merchant ship. This had upset the Americans because they soon started losing
many American lives even though they were neutral. One of the worst incidents was the sinking of the Lusitania, a British luxury liner which the Germans sunk without first warning the ship. The Germans had killed 128 Americans that were on the luxury liner. After that incident the Germans sunk the Arabic and Sussex and created pledges with the United States saying that they would not sink anymore unarmed ships and would visit and search. The Germans how ever would go back on their pledges causing the U.S to get involved.
The Germans had sent the Zimmermann note to the German ambassador in Mexico but was intercepted and decoded by the British. It was then sent to the U.S and given to Wilson. This note helped the U.S enter the war. Wilson showed this note to congress to so that he would be allowed to arm merchant ships and then enter the war to fight germany.

The lamp of experience is an example of ______.
A) aphorism
B) metaphor
C) repetition
D) rhyme
The lamp of experience in "Speech in the Virginia Convention" is an example of B) metaphor. Hence, option B) is the correct answer.
How is metaphor used in the speech? It is used as metaphor as the word lamp is applied to experience as a figure of speech although there is no physical lamp. Henry uses literary devices such as rhetorical questions, allusions and parallel structure in the speech. Henry hopes to persuade the Convention to vote for war with Britain and therefore, he refers to the "lamp of experience" as a conclusion based on experiences from the past.
Henry compares British rule to slavery and uses the metaphor throughout the speech. In the end of the speech he says the colonists' “chains are forged and their clanging may be heard on the plains of Boston” because he is trying to say that he has tried everything.
Patrick Henry's use of diction is a persuasive and forceful tone, appeal to ethos and pathos shows that the colonists should be fighting to break away from the British monarchy rather than negotiating terms to try and stay under their rule.

When the person performing the action in the sentence is also the object of the sentence, the writer should use a BLANK pronoun that ends in the suffix -self or -selves.
A. possessive
B. reciprocal
C. reflexive
D. subjective
Option C, The correct term is a reflexive pronoun, which is used when the subject and object of a sentence are the same entity. This pronoun ends in -self for singular or -selves for plural, such as himself, herself, and themselves.
When the person performing the action in the sentence is also the object of the sentence, the writer should use a reflexive pronoun that ends in the suffix -self or -selves. Reflexive pronouns, such as himself, herself, and themselves, are used when the same entity is both the subject and the direct object of a sentence. For instance, 'She taught herself to play the piano.' Here, 'she' is both doing the teaching and receiving the knowledge, so 'herself' is the appropriate reflexive pronoun. It is important to note that reflexive pronouns are used for all three persons: first (myself, ourselves), second (yourself, yourselves), and third (himself, herself, itself, themselves), and their form changes to reflect plurality (ourselves, yourselves, themselves).
