William Zinsser's comments about writing as a profession perhaps dispel some myths about it. First, he says one needs to re-write sentences often many times to convey the designated meaning accurately and eloquently. Secondly, he says that one needs to stick to a schedule to be successful at writing like going to a job. Thirdly, writing is not easy and not necessarily fun at least at the time when the writing occurs (though in retrospect it may be considered to be fun-my opinion). Finally, we see that writing does not necessarily carry a lot of glory with it and is hard work and is a craft to work at to perfect it.

How did the Kiowa tribe show strong belief in leadership?

A: organized around a maternal pattern

B: followed a male dominated authority

C: abided by a hierarchy of classes

D: created an elected ruler system

Answers

Answer: B: followed a male dominated authority

The Kiowa are one of the aboriginal tribes of the United States. They lived in the extensive plains of the states of Texas and Oklahoma and are currently located in the latter.

It should be noted that the Kiowa culture practiced polygamy, because there were more women than men and was a society oriented towards men (this means they were patrilineal with a chiefdom). In fact, the women of the tribe, although characterized by having a strong character and being able to defend the camp when the men were away, only achieved prestige by the exploits performed by her husband (or her sons or father) or through art.

In addition, the Kiowa were divided mainly into six large groups or bands, which had their own chief subordinate to the chieftain of the tribe.

rapid industrialization in developing nations has often resulted in...
a) little growth in urban centers
b) decreases in the levels of pollution
c) the continuation of traditional ideas in the work plase
d) a growing gap between the rich and the poor

Answers

Answer:

D) growing gap between the rich and the poor

Explanation:

A doesn't make sense because industrialization comes with rapid urban growth. B doesn't make sense because industrialization also comes with the making of factories, therefore increases pollution. C is usually untrue since industrialization is the cause of things like worker unions where workers demand for better rights in the work place. Therefore, D is the correct answer. Also, D makes sense because with rapid industrialization, usually slums are created for the poor working class, and the rich people (mostly factory owners) live in nice homes and neighborhoods.

The answer is option d) a growing gap between the rich and the poor.

What was the result of rapid industrialization?

Rapid urbanization brought on by industrialization typically leads to the general deterioration of workers' quality of life and many other problems for society, such as crime, stress, and psychological disorders.

What impact does industrialization have on a developing country?

True

You might want to confirm my answer.

Final answer:

Contrary to the statement, Iroquois kinship groups were not headed by the oldest males, but instead, they were matrilineal societies with senior women playing crucial roles in leadership and the selection of male political leaders.

Explanation:

The statement that Iroquois kinship groups were headed by the oldest males in the family is false. Rather, the Iroquois society was matrilineal, meaning kinship, or one's familial lineage and descent, was traced through the mother's side of the family. This also meant that leadership within clans often fell to the senior women, who, in turn, held significant roles in selecting the male political leaders.

Antarctic ice caps do not grow rapidly because _____.

there is little precipitation

the sun shines for six straight months

the ice reflects the sun’s rays

there is too much moisture in the air

Answers

Antarctic ice caps grow slowly due to very little precipitation resembling polar desert conditions, high albedo of ice reflecting solar radiation, and low temperatures maintained throughout the year due to low sun angles and long polar nights.

Antarctic ice caps do not grow rapidly primarily because there is little precipitation. Despite the common misconception that the polar regions should receive high snowfall due to their cold temperatures, Antarctica experiences conditions similar to a polar desert. In areas like McMurdo Station, the annual precipitation is particularly low, with only 7.8 mm (0.4 in) recorded. The polar climate's extremely cold temperatures lead to small dew points, so the air holds minimal moisture even when saturated.

Another reason for the slow growth of ice caps is the high albedo of ice, which means that up to 70% of incoming solar radiation is reflected back into space rather than absorbed. This reflection combined with the low sun angle and the polar night, where the sun does not rise above the horizon for several months, ensures that temperatures remain extremely low throughout the year. Hence, whatever little snow falls does not melt and accumulates over time. However, this process of accumulation is slow because of the low precipitation levels.

It's also worth mentioning that while the impact of global climate change could potentially alter these conditions by increasing atmospheric temperatures, Antarctic ice is currently still expanding slightly. This expansion, however, is much less than the decrease in Arctic ice, and overall global sea ice is diminishing.

Explanation:What Did France Do in 1883?

In the year 1883, France was actively expanding its colonial empire, particularly in Southeast Asia. During this period, France was involved in consolidating its control over regions that would later be known as French Indochina, which encompassed the modern-day countries of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. After initial conflicts and treaties starting from 1858, by 1887, France had established protectorates over Vietnam and Cambodia, and in 1893, they added Laos to this territory following a military conflict with Siam (now Thailand).

Specifically, in 1883, France had been involved in military and diplomatic activities to assert and maintain control over these territories. The actions taken by France in the region heavily influenced the future political landscape and set the stage for future conflicts, including the seeds for the Viet Minh's resistance against French colonialism, which eventually led to the First Indochina War in the mid-20th century.

A sponsor is a member of congress who is willing to introduce and back the legislation.

A chamber is a legislative meeting hall.

One of the two chambers in government, either the senate or the house of representatives: house of congress

Activity concerning a bill which may include debates and compromises: floor action.

Answer:

"In session": the time when Congress is active and members are present, fulfilling their respective duties.

Conference: a meeting for discussion.

Roll call vote:  a voting process by the members who are present; no absentee voting allowed.

Sit: a bill that will not be in progress or in any action but will be inactive for a particular time period.

Floor action: activity concerning a bill which may include debates and compromises.

Version: a form or variation of the original.

Explanation:

It´s said Congress is "in session" when it assembles and performs its regular business.

We talk about "version", for example, if the House and the Senate present different versions of a bill. And Conference Committees are needed if the House and the Senate present different versions of a bill, so they can discuss a compromise acceptable for both.

In a roll call vote, there´s a public record of the way each member voted, so there´s no absentee voting allowed.

There´s floor action when there´s action,  discussions, and compromises regarding a bill. On the other hand, we talk about "sit" when a bill has no action and becomes inactive for a special period of time.
